“Welcome to our Treeleaf “always at home” two-day Rohatsu retreat,
celebrating Buddha’s Enlightenment day!”

In Soto Zen, the week between December 1st and 8th is called Rohatsu Sesshin, which is usually a retreat of intensive zazen that lasts a whole week. In our sangha, this retreat celebrates the ‘official’ closure of our Ango (90 day special practice period), is a part of current preparations for our Jukai (Undertaking the Precepts) ceremony in January, and marks  the traditional holiday in Japan celebrating the time of the Buddha’s Enlightenment. To best serve the needs of our special sangha, our retreat is shorter in duration but not less in intensity. We honor all life as our place of retreat, and take into consideration the different circumstances of our diverse practitioners.

The sittings and other practice sessions during these 2 days will be guided at times by Jundo from Japan and by all our Treeleaf priests across the world. Dharma talks this year, [topic to be assigned], will be offered by the following Priests :

  • Day 1, Unit 3: Kyonin
  • Day 1, Unit 5: Onkai
  • Day 2, Unit 3: Kokuu
  • Day 2, Unit 5: Kotei

On this page you can find all the information you’ll need to be able to wholeheartedly participate in this retreat, regardless of your specific circumstances. We do our best to be prepared, we immerse ourselves in the practice and then we let go and go with the flow, accepting hiccups that might occur and for the duration of our participation, we completely hand ourselves over to the Buddha.
