Treeleaf Weekly Zazenkai
Friday Zazenkai
If you’d like to join the sangha for practice, at Treeleaf we offer weekly zazenkai (zazen meetings), where we formally practice together.
Our weekly zazenkai led by Jundo Roshi, our principal teacher and founder, is held every Friday evening (US time) or Saturday very early morning (EU time). The format of the meeting is as follows:
15′ Ceremony (Heart Sutra in English and Dedication)
30′ Zazen
10′ Kinhin
30′ Zazen
5′ Verse of Atonement and Four Vows
15′ Informal tea time (all welcome)
Sunday Zazenkai
If you live in Europe, we offer a zazenkai on Sunday mornings that lasts approximately 75 minutes. The format of this meeting is as follows:
30′ Zazen (Verse of the robe at the end)
10′ Kinhin
20′ Zazen
15′ Ceremony (Heart Sutra, Dedication, Verse of Atonement, Four Vows)
15′ Informal tea time (all welcome)
For this zazenkai, we invite you, if you have a rakusu or Okesa, to not put them on before joining, as we recite the Robe verse together at the end of the first sitting period.

Weekly zazenkai: How To Stop Time
Arising from stillness, carry out activities without hesitation. This moment is the koan.
When practice and realization are without complexity then the koan is this present moment.
That which is before any trace arises, the scenery on the other side of time’s destruction,
the activity of all buddhas and patriarchs, is just this one thing.
You should just rest and cease. Be cooled, pass numberless years as this moment.
Be cold ashes, a withered tree, an incense burner in an abandoned temple, a piece of unstained silk.
