Jundo: What is the best time for Zazen?

I sometimes am asked, "What is the best time for Zazen?"

Some may prefer the morning, some the evening ... some at noon and some in the middle of the night ...

But truly, ANY time, ANY where is ALWAYS the "best time and place" of Zazen. In fact, just be consistent by sitting a bit each day. And ... most vitally ... when you sit, forget about "right time" "best time" "good or bad time" and even "time" ... put aside some future time when the world may end, put aside some past time you long for or regret ... put aside the Buddha of the distant past, put aside some Buddha who may come tomorrow, and sit as if the Buddha sitting right now ... as if this time of sitting, right now, is the only time, the right time, the one time, the unique time and the only place to be during this time in the world.

There is no wrong or best time for Zazen. Zazen, in fact, holds all time.

    Gassho,
    Kotei sat/lah today.

Being a novice priest doesn't mean my writing about the Dharma is more substantial than yours. Actually, it might well be the other way round.
