To make up for my last pic (taken at a Ross store and terribly overdone), here is a picture I took last year. My wife and I were on a canoeing trip in Oregon and the couple that was with us had a little girl who just had to show my wife what she had found .

I might have been right down there off the highway by the rail line looking up at you!.. I was roaming that big flat where the mountains come up like a wall...

You have that standing on a mountain smile.

There is a Japanese tongue twister that goes with this knickknack:
    Kaeru pyoko-pyoko
    mi pyoko-pyoko
    awasete pyoko-pyoko mu pyoko-pyoko
translation: Take two sets of three frog croaks add them together and they make six frog croaks

The young lady that gifted this has unfortunately left this visible world. Consequently, we hold this treasure close.

Edit: I apologize for the bad quality. This photo is large and high quality, but doesn't seem to be so after I posted it. Is it because there is a limit on photo size? No big deal.

Ah, definitely my kind of event and people. Back in the day I used to be a cosplayer of anything anime/Star Wars related... and I'm glad there are no existing photos

Lovely, especially the touch of graffiti on the fountain. I mean that without sarcasm. Graffiti holds a certain charm for me.

Yep, Rogers is his name. He's a rescue from the pound in Harlem. That was the name he had been given, so we kept it.

I've been attempting to make a hammered wire fibula (fancy word for pin/brooch) and here's what happened on my first three tries:
    fibulaesmall.jpg

The red-coated copper one is my first try. The wire is way too fine and didn't take hammering well at all (obviously), but it was easy to work and I wanted to learn the moves. The second one was promising, but I used the wrong hammer and left dents everywhere. I thought I had it with the brass one, but I made a measuring error and the pin came up way too short.

I posted this because the whole process reminded me of sewing a rakusu, errors and all! You just learn one step at a time, and keep going. (And try not to throw your tools around in frustration. )
