I notice that many members use the salutation "gassho" after a post. Is this written simply to symbolize the gesture? That is, you would never actually speak the words "gassho" to someone,..... or would you?

    I don't know...would you?

Kinda doesn't matter what anyone else would do, does it?

Is it a gesture, or a spoken greeting? That's my question.

I would perhaps wave goodbye to someone as I left. I would probably not walk up to someone, say "wave," and turn and leave.

    Re: gassho

it is like saying "yours truly"

It is a sign of respect. Not spoken with words, just spoken from the heart.

We put our hands together to show humility and respect. We put our hands together to show to realization of our practice. Hands together, we are whole.

Or...it is just the way things are signed around here...

A requirement of the medium, I think. I could bow all day to this screen and you'd probably never see me. Just a friendly reminder that we are, in fact, constantly bowing to you me I us we.

gassho...one could write a whole book on this mudra, a very specific gesture filled with esoteric significance.
To cut a long story short: one with. No separation between I and all sentient beings, I and reality, here and there, body and mind.
Gassho is where the pair of opposites collapse into neither nor. You have two hands and yet they form one.

    GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSHO!

Gassho is the way we salute in respect to people. We have to write the words since you can't see me doing it.

But hey I have a question for you guys. Have you ever done a physical gassho to the screen when reading a post that hits the spot? I have ops:

    Sure Choco,
I gassho more towards the screen than anything or anyone else, since I'm at Treeleaf

    Hi Choco,
    Thanks for the fun question!
From posts on the forum not with my hands but definitely with my heart! Along with full floor prostrations(which I think of as gassho on steroids!), I do all my Treeleaf gassho-ing during our weekly Zazenkai.

    Gassho,
