    tonglen equivalent in zen?

    is there anything in soto or rinzai similar to the tibetan practice of tonglen?

    Hi Bayamo,

    Well, Tonglen is a lovely practice. Here, I encourage the practice of Metta, which is of like heart. Metta is actually a practice from the Theravada tradition.

    As a matter of fact, I am about to post a little essay on the Metta practice by a Theravadan writer. Look for that in a few days.

    There is not really the same practice in Japanese Zen.
