Sitting in Zazen with a heavy heart.
    Repeating stories stirring up muck.
The sound of rain falling on leaves and stones.
    How appealing!

    Recalling hurricanes and thunderstorms
leaking the roof of the old homestead.
The sound of cloudy water falling on carpet and furniture.
    How appalling!

But who could get angry at raindrops?

All one can do is put down buckets,
    wait for the sunshine,
    inspect the roof,
    try to make repairs.

Beautiful empty rain - outside or inside:
    no anger, only compassionate action.
Beautiful empty beings - beneficial or harmful:
    no anger, only compassionate action.

The rain has cracked, the whole sky is clear.

    Gassho,
    Sekishi

Thank you everyone. I sat with you this morning. That was a lovely Heart Sutra this week. Honestly when I read that an accordion was involved I expected something cheesy.

Beautiful poem, Sekishi. This is what I wanted to say re the 'koan' in the talk (a truly public case this time, then):

Everything in life is as it is.
    Nothing to fix.
Yet, we do our best to fix the bad things.

The tapestry of life contains all threads.
Here and now, who can avoid being thrown in?
At the seashore, who can not jump into the waves?
Everything in life is as it is.

Finished sitting with you all on demand this morning. I enjoyed that rendition of the Heart Sutra! I am not too into polka (just personal musical tastes), but when played like this the accordion is quite lovely.

    Thank you everyone!

    I just sat this.

I had expected to sit this live but just a few hours beforehand I was given the opportunity to immediately attend a two-day sesshin at a local Zen center; the first live sesshin for a year-and-a-half. The opportunity happened because I asked a local priest to be my teacher and they said, provisionally, yes. ("Provisionally" because we have been friends for a very long time and we need to see if this new relationship will work considering our history.)

So, I'm happy. At least for now I get double the zen!

To be entirely clear, I am not a hōkan = 幇間 = taikomochi = geisha, but I do wonder if my preceptor was having a bit of fun with me...
