    72/108 Gates of Dharma Illumination

    The Seventy-second Gate

Entrustment as a part of the state of truth, is a gate of Dharma illumination; for [with it] conduct is already managed.

    Entrustment:
to charge or invest with a trust or responsibility

    Every night when falling asleep,
I trust I'll wake up tomorrow,
    Though I cannot be sure.
    Entrusting my breath to Dharma,
    The Dharma carries itself out.

    Trust in the Dharma
    When all fades
    It alone remains

    My trust in you
    Can only be fulfilled if
    First I (can) trust me.

    When I am unsure whether
    Trust is possible, it is
Because I see the possibility for
    Failed action in me.

And if I cannot trust, I know
    It is because I know
    I cannot be trusted.

Wrap yourself in the Dharma robe
And in the meaning of the Precepts,
And you will see that Truth and
Trust come from a common bowl.

    Gassho
