    The Three Refuge Verse
    (Sanki Raimon)

    I take refuge in buddha.
    May all beings
    embody the great way,
    resolving to awaken.

    I take refuge in dharma.
    May all living beings
    deeply enter the sutras,
    wisdom like an ocean.

    I take refuge in sangha.
    May all beings
    support harmony in the community,
    free from hindrance.

    Hi !

Here is a short poem I wrote yesterday ( in French, naturally…) and Google helps me to translate it.

    The zen voices

Sing and give up your ego
    Sing, without intentions or goals
Sing and immerse yourself in the dharma
Sing so that you and the whole universe are never separate
Sing and perceive your true nature
Sing and unite your voice with those of the sangha

Sing instead of those who cannot
Sing instead of those who can’t do it no longer
Sing and embody the voices that have fallen silent over the days, months and years

So that at each sitting, serene presence,
The silent choir manifests in each of us

    Hi everybody !

We are starting the month of February today and at the end of it, we will celebrate the second anniversary of the Chanting and Zazen Circle. By March 1st, each day we will dedicate a poem in tribute to Ryokudo and Saiko, who are the originators of this brilliant idea: to come together to sing, read, and of course, do zazen.

We can never express enough how beneficial this almost daily gathering has been for our practice.

Thank you both and to all participants who, over the weeks and months, have contributed to making this circle an essential meeting place marked by the spirit of camaraderie, respect, sharing, complicity, and sincere friendship.

    ” It is present everywhere.

There is nothing it does not contain.

However only those who have previously
 planted wisdom – seeds
    will be able

to continuously see it.”
    – Dogen

Hello everyone, and especially to you, Seiko and Jundo.

Although there isn't much activity on this discussion thread, it doesn't mean that there isn't any during our Zoom meetings. In fact, the group remains active and easily adapts to the constraints and/or absences of the participants (work schedule, vacations, travels, health issues, etc.). Personally, I have just returned from a trip abroad (three months in Japan), and I find a dynamic group under Kumo's leadership. New participants have joined while others, due to personal constraints, have had to be absent.

Currently, the meetings follow the following schedule:

    Welcome
Allocation of chants based on the interests of the attendees... First part: Sanki Raimon, Kaikyo Ge, Hannya Shingyo, Fueko, Ji Ho San Shi
    30 minutes of zazen

    Second part:
    Enmei Juku Kannon Gyo
    Dedication
    Reading of a few haikus
Shi Gu Sei Gan Mon (sung in Japanese, English, and other languages, depending on the attendees present - French, Swedish, Portuguese, Dutch, Norwegian, Russian, etc.). If three linguistic groups other than English and Japanese are present, there will be five verses instead of the usual three.
    Tisarana (Pali)
End of the meeting (often followed by discussions and exchanges)
The entire session usually lasts from fifty to fifty-five minutes. I want to clarify that all chants can be performed in either English or Japanese, depending on the participants' preference. Finally, I should mention that there is no designated leader. Anyone can take charge of one or several meetings based on their interests and availability.

That sums up the regular activities of the Chanting and Zazen Circle group. I hope these details are helpful to you and may attract new members who might be interested in Zen chants and Zazen itself.

    Hello there,

I am thinking about dropping in from time to time, sitting and chanting with you.
Trying to find out which chants are the ones used, I'd need to print/prepare.
Is it still the list posted from Yuki, below?

    Hello everyone,

There's some news from the Chanting and Zazen Circle!

Two priests from Treeleaf (Bion and Kotei ) have expressed their interest in joining us from time to time to address any questions we may have and to make our almost daily activities more visible to the community. There is no doubt that this will be a valuable addition.

I take this opportunity to invite you to come (or come back) to chant and practice Zazen as often as you'd like.

A big thank you to all the people who sang and practiced zazen with Chanting and Zazen Circle this week: Teishin, Anchi (UK), Suzanne (Québec), Andrea, Eric, Kumo (US), and Koun (Brazil).

Friendly reminder: all the texts of the chants in English and Japanese can be found in post #551. These are the ones we use daily.

    Thank you Mokusho,
It was a wonderful calm and warm atmosphere, I enjoyed very much.
The time is always difficult for me, but I will join again - this time maybe prepared with something in German language.

    Gassho,
    Kotei sat/lah today.

    Hi everybody,

I had the privilege and pleasure of providing accommodation to Gyokei Yokoyama, a Sōtō monk in Long Beach, California, for one night. We took the opportunity to sit with Kumo and Teishin at the Chanting and Zazen Circle via Zoom. Gyokei san is very aware that sanghas like Trealeaf contribute to alleviating the isolation of people from remote regions who do not have access to nearby Zen groups. A big thank you to him.

    Hi,

Here are The Four Vows in Dutch and Sandōkai in Japanese.

    First version

    Zijnden zijn ontelbaar
    Oneindig in getal
    Wie zal ze bevrijden?

    Ik zal

    Onware wanen dwalen
    Ontspringen overal
    Wie zal ze weerleggen?

    Ik zal

    Ware Wijsheid leidt
