The Japanese calligrapher who keeps a forgotten female ancient script alive
This article is a fascinating read on the script that Japanese women developed centuries ago, called kana shodo, and a contemporary Japanese calligrapher, Kaoru Akagawa who is using the ancient script in her artwork.
Evidently the 10th century Japanese woman was quite liberated compared to now where "Japan ranked 110 out of 149 countries in the World Economic Forum's index measuring the degree of gender equality."
