Sticky: Zazen Sitting with Sekishi and Nengyoku (Mo,Tu,We,Th,Su)

    Hi all,

Would anyone be available to host the sit on Thursday 03/02? I will be on the road and not likely to have internet that night.

    Gassho,

    Hi all,

I will be out of the state for a few days next week for family stuff. I doubt I will be able to lead the sitting on Monday. If someone would like to lead, that would be wonderful. If not, I think you all know the process by now.

    Deep bows,

    Hello, everyone.
Sekishi has asked me to let you all know he won't be able to join you for the scheduled sit today, Monday the 10th. He is currently dealing with some health issues that are keeping him away for today. I am sure there are regulars there who can step up and keep time and initiate the chanting.
    Thank you for your understanding.

Haha, I actually have a new cushion that looks like exactly that.

This hospitalization was actually for something completely different though. Turns out part of the reason it was difficult to figure out what exactly was wrong was because I have two different things going on.

Sekishi it’s possible to just cut the center out of a piece of foam rubber. I sit on my black chair that I bought for my desk and I bought a cushion at Walmart for $5.99
And it ties onto the chair with like black ribbons. See, I have artificial knees and practically no lower spine, but I wanted to look like a real zen guy so I bought this chair for $69.99
And the cushion for $5.99 and they are completely black like an official zen zafu and I have seen zafus offered online for 75 bucks and they are made in a real Monestary. So I spent $77 and that was in 2016 about the time I undertook the precepts. I was a real zen guy. What I wanted was something Jundo did for 9 of us when we were all around here for a few years and we knew we would never be able to be priests in training, usri and I do appreciate Jundo’s sensitivity. I will never be laity but I want to be someone committed to a path and so I have done all this stuf and studied a dozen highly respected zen books. Why? Why is it that I want to be kind of a priest but a real priest. My wife doesn’t want me to be a zen priest and I think most people have no idea what commitment being any kind of clergy is.

    Hi all,

I will be with a family member in the hospital on Monday and will likely not be available to lead sitting and Metta practice. If someone would like to lead, that is great. If not, if someone could ring the bells so nobody sits for 50 minutes, that would be awesome.

    Hey folks,

I will be away for a few days for a family function / issue. I will not be able to attend on Sunday, but I *might* be there on Monday. If not, can someone keep time and bang on a lid or bell?

We'll certainly miss you Sekishi. Safe travels!

I'll be there both nights and can certainly bang on something (although my Kesu would probably be best... ).

That said, I don't want to steal all the fun, so if anyone else would like to lead one or both nights, please chime in below.

Friends, it has been a pleasure to sit and practice with you, but I no longer feel comfortable doing so. Please continue to sit together, and if someone could do the timekeeping for Tuesdays that would be great.
I apologize for any inconvenience this causes all of you. It has been my pleasure to know you. Thank you to Seikan for taking over my other time slots.

Thank you Nengyoku for keeping the evening Zazen "fires" burning for so long. I hope to sit with you again when the time is right.

As noted, I'm happy to be of service once again on Wednesday nights and am generally available to host most other nights if needed. However, Tuesdays are currently the one night when I often (but not always) have a conflict. I'll certainly join when I can, but with such a great group of consistent "regulars", I'm sure that we'll have Tuesdays covered.

It’s been a pleasure to sit with you. I’m not always the most consistent to making it and often end up meditating later, but your presence has been a great boon to the group and you will be missed.
