The reason we are foolish enough to make ourselves suffer and make the other person suffer is that we forget that we and the other person are impermanent. Someday when we die, we will lose all our possessions, our power, our family, everything. Our freedom, peace, and joy in the present moment is the most important thing we have. But without an awakened understanding of impermanence, it is not possible to be happy. Thich Nhat Hanh, The Tiger Within. p 119.

Onkai where did you get your bell, clappers, etc for keeping time with the heart sutra and closing kinhin?

I think I bought the small mokugyo fish drum for less than twenty dollars and a Tibetan singing bell around the same price through Amazon. I use the fish drum again in place of the clackers at the end of kinhin. The Monastery Store has more authentic Zen instruments. I see the clackers are now $49, which is a lot less than I remember them being. I just ordered clackers. The Monastery Store also offers a full size mukugyo fish drum and bells usually used for Soto Zen ceremonies.
