    We hide in nothing
    Forever gone again
    Parrots intelligent
    Enough to speak white
    Mans love, where
    Is love in green trees?
    What happened in smoke
    Poisoning rapture
    In white out blue?

    Peace Never Gone

    Sit gratuitously friends
    Remembering thee gain
    Loss without afternoon pain
    Not understand surgery
    Fortuitously gone another
    Peace gained peaceful art
    Alone, dangerously
    Play with wonder
    Adopted land. I cannot
    Write blue Haiku
    Is soul immortal?
    Live not in tatters,
    Sing rapture thought
    To write Villanelles,
    Peacefully Rondeau
    Dance Byzantium
    Warning Constantinople
    Silence drives me sane
    My neurosurgeon
    Called today vestigial
    Pain may subside,
    Men in dust live better
    Surrounding silence
    Gone never Modula
    Deep much deeper
    Than my AVM, never
    My words grace
    Ministers surgeon says
    Language great, sense
    Monday through Friday,
    Everything disappears
    Dictatorial immersion,
    Can't stay in acts, here
    In Sangha sit for peace,
    With language promised
    Never gone, oh, music sing
    Poetry of forgiveness,
    Now tears gone except
My Buddha heart one may meet
    Teacher, I will never
    Kill him in white smoke.
    Heart of Shikantaza.

    Remember

    On March third, 2021,
    Where Dakota Prairie
    His second gratitude
    Today Steps near
    His Dollar General,

    Stores in Hartford
    Show no decay
    Gone are mornings
    From Paychecks
    To Walmart on Highway
    38 Selling priority
    In Post offices

    Never Sunshine
    Market full of recovery
    She was like poetry,
    Mother was beautiful,
    Her child played

    With plastic saxophone,
    Promised. Sometimes
    Sometimes Gifts laminate,
    Wood grateful
    In California
    Clearings cut

    Shall never see my
    Tall Douglas fir
    With grace
    Along Long’s Peak
    Colorado where
    He walked
    In 1988.

    Now his moist eyes
    Giving pain
    Loving mind,
    More concerned
    More compassion
    In his release,
    Equanimity.

    Not Abandoned

    I am grateful
    Mixture, O2
    Of Great space
    Full, and my life
    Fills me, miracle
    Real physical
    Miracles made possible
    Over women and men
This is a people of sweet
    Word people make me
    Smile the truism given

    Two to children,
    Who Onkai gave our
    Blessing everywhere,
    Threatened by big
    People, bigger omen,
    One treats children
    Of busy cupboard
    As little big people,
    When all in desire--
    Inosines, given to play
    Learning to be like
    Big people, are they
    Betrayed? To their
    Betrayal music
    Which powerful
    People advantaged
    Into innocence
    Wonder given
    To sentience
    Wise, Sapiential
    Wonder as growing

    Wise at seventy
    Their example even
    Pain festers in his spine
    Brain trust artificial
    Message to Oxygen
    Draw into body,
    Child breathe deeply
    Sometimes Oxygen
    Real seeking life
    Always bathing brain
    Of sweet air, life

    Until end of heart?
    What is end? Child
    As big people,
    Understand not
    Because they
    Are not big people,
    They do not see.
    Effort balances
    With abandoned
    Toy rocket ship
    Going to Moon
    Luminesce silver
    With doll on board.
    How many people,
    Packed innocence
    Control their tower
    Will find another life
    On Mars? Gift
    Under ground,
    Subway shelter,
    Smashed with rockets.

    I love them more
    Than they could
    Ever know, she has
    Taught me kindness
    I have taught he life
    Off loving. Our lives
    Together, teacher
    Research, we are
    Complement, she
    Says her life has
    Been the end of dreams,
Mine came on July 22, 1987
    We know our dreams
    Were together with sobriety
    I found another dream
    More lasting, and finally
    More forgiving when I told
Dad I love him, not wanting
    Always giving and finally
    One Zen Master, David
    Said," Better late than
    Never," it was not never,
At 91, me almost, I told
Him this, I had to work up
To it, I know he was
    Waiting to hear it, Well
    I am 70. I don't want money
    Marjorie, your not
A boy, you are a man
    So now recognizes
    Beauty in creating Laurel,
    I knew exactly what
I was doing the ultimate love.
    Are both loving kindness.
    Finally I am poetry.

    We pledged to mind
    To body, to healthy
    Sight in our thoughts,
    For her dreams, Kyousui
    Ours clean blood
    Scrubbed away hands
    Of soft cleanliness,

    Each to each,
    Gave memories
    For computers
    Keys tapping out
    Essence in poetry
    They sit listening
    Music of our voice
    His life immortality
    Related to harmony
    He listened then spoke
    Questing both, Kyousui

    Strong Watters,
    His promise come
    To nurse to save
    With gentle tone
    Strong enough
    To move stones,
    His face hidden
    Behind his beard,
    Ubasoku saved
    This listening ear,
    Knew fear except
    His friend might
    Die his friend, might die,
    Quick give Health for two
    One sister, the other
    Wife, he knew
    Did not Know
    Her food,
    Sweet nourishment
    Apples of the Sun
    Both found liberty
    Both accepted
    As if no where
    West together,
    Their tears
    Friendship
    Never end friend,
    Gave, then taught
    Friendship, for bond
    Broken not,

    Zazenkai in Omaha
    With Matt, Methodist
    Bright, Tai Shi
    Turned to Unity
    Universal Love

    Kyousui knew,
    American, Canterbury,
    Church of England
    First in flight
    Then not in fright,
    Let voice through
    Phones, unite
    Amplified, devices,

    Friend to friend
    He saved his life,
    Always Thank you
    He was right, said
    Strong Waters
    Yes to her, friend
    Never knew what he
    Said to Tai Shi's wife
    Poetry to Pearl
    Bright, safety light
    Stroke may come
    In AVM he did not
    Know, horrific loss

    His Thich Nhat Hanh
    Footsteps another
    Heart sutra of life,
    While friend felt
    Emptiness, no death
    Death, Old age
    No old age, no death
    Age, shared emptiness
    Does Death rely
    On vague sight,
    In the sky of clouds
    Gone beyond,
    Beyond rejection,

    Nurse long, Strong
    Ever Waters, ever
    Blood, first forced
    Flowing bright
    Sunlight his dog
    Fell sick, had
    To be put down
    Grave dug, friend helped
    The great Alone stood
    One companion
    Canine loyal all
    Those years, now
    Friendship gone,
    Taught to friend
    That loving song
    Teacher to be strong
    Taught loyalty,
    His brave longing,

    Call morning
    Noon or night,
    Doves found
    In flight, never far
    On safety fence
    Called out in peace
    Between two friends
    Debt never questioned
    There was none between
    Two friends, one nurse
    Computer tech, other
    Teacher, Poet Laurate,

    The other, farmer
    Stock, the man father
    To child, to mother
    Husband, the other
    Always nursing
    Some great pain

    Both abandoned
    In childhood,
    Ubasoku knew
    Grandmotherly,
    Both never cried
    Side by side
    Father's Fellowship,
    Part of sentiment
    Denied, one support
    Love's naturel as children
    Play one in Earling
    The other in Hartford
    Land of sky,
    Of clouds, the other
    Water strong

    Kyousui's priest of blood
    Called simple monk
    Began Finding breath
    To speak gift of calm
    Poetry, gift of friendship
    Shred his nursing,

    Powers. Teaches dawn
    Eternal introduction
    One to help the other
    Buddha's Golden Rule
    Help always
    In Loving Kindness
    Help each other
    Life eternal in poems
    One nurse, both teachers
    One in words, strong
    Waters saving blood
    The Ubsoku most
    In words calm, strong
    Emily Dickinson knew
    When deep bows
    To each, each gave
    Head coming off
    One AVM saved life
    His friend both
    Learned Buddha's steps
    In loving kindness

    One Buddhist Gives One Vision

    Bird song since February cold,
Robins orange and gray, then stair
Steps at end of April shelter

Into body of angry bones to delay
Bodies of war in Spring pain,
    Rain white on neighboring

Sunday sit to stand with cane to help,
    With breath made whole, silence
    From trees outside Sutra green

    Defines without death, night opens
    To song before scorching earth,
    While Zazen cools Buddhist mind,

    Emptiness of will, summer comes
Not today my Child crying for toys.
Attacks are blown West in wind

    Gone making Global Warming hot,
Pandemic defies life of ancient toil,
    Across Spring, burned wheat

    While parents cry for homes
    Made dirty bunkers. Temporary Peace
    Clay Lands on anonymous face

    Opening graves without fear. Try
    To understand storm clouds
Of Death of food in Subway

Shelter. Who feeds his child of war?
Old in hiding shelter or young defying
Missiles. Yellow light in blue sky.

    Loving kindness could prevail
Metta chanting with those in Tonglen
    Quieting great minds of freedom.

    We are Ukrainian

    Sky green with moon, sky
    Moving up in clouds dense
    Gray, gray with brown, gone
    Mad today nothing,
    No Winter. Ice opposite
    To oppose living possibly
    Things to witness touching
    Weep for Lives suffering
    Color for the sun? Much
Death of such Pain as this.
Is this pain. Who can say,
    "I am Ukrainian?" on plain
    Beneath breathe, Sunset

ARTS: Big and Little Poetry--free verse, any verse.

    Over billions of years
    The universe
    Spun up elements
    Some evolved into fire

    Some say…

    “So,
    over billions of years
    It’s just how
    The universe evolved
    And spun up fire:

    Fire evolved
    With the inescapable
    Greed and desire
    To consume
    Everything
    And anything

    Tortured because
    The universe
    Has no care
    If a fire is satisfied

    Tortured
    With the inescapable
    Greed and desire
    To consume
    Everything
    And anything”

    Yes that is true.

    And…

    Fire can be contained
    Settling into one place

    In this moment
    The fire is perfect
    Complete
    And whole
    Not waiting
    To greedily
    Latch on to
    Everything and
    Anything

    Fire is just itself
    Never tortured
    Never waiting

    Because…

Fire IS the billions of years
    That evolved itself into fire

    Fire is earth... And water
    Fire is air... And solid
    Fire is heat... And cold
    Consuming and consumed

    The fire is the universe
    Forever satisfied
    Even if not.

    Flowing upward
    The fire naturally lets go
    (It has no choice)
    Of its inescapable
    Greed and desire
    Not torturing itself
    To consume everything
    And anything
    And the moonlit sky
    Does not obstruct it’s
    Dangerous flames and
    Poisonous smoke
    To flow upward
    And float away

(Please kindly look past the pretentiousness and length. It’s not a subtle “poem” or whatever it is, I’m not smart enough for subtlety.)

    I like it Tom!

"The dove descending breaks the air
    With flame of incandescent terror
    Of which the tongues declare
The one discharge from sin and error.
The only hope, or else despair
Lies in the choice of pyre or pyre—
To be redeemed from fire by fire."

Little Gidding was started after The Dry Salvages but was delayed because of Eliot's declining health and his dissatisfaction with early drafts of the poem. Eliot was unable to finish the poem until September 1942.[24] Like the three previous poems of the Four Quartets, the central theme is time and humanity's place within it. Each generation is seemingly united and the poem describes a unification within Western civilisation. When discussing World War II, the poem states that humanity is given a choice between the bombing of London or the Holy Spirit. God's love allows humankind to redeem itself and escape the living hell through purgation by fire; he drew the affirmative coda "All shall be well" from medieval mystic Julian of Norwich. The end of the poem describes how Eliot has attempted to help the world as a poet, and he parallels his work in language with working on the soul or working on society.[25] Wikipedia

    Fire caught my spine.
    Asked my father, "Dad,
    How is your back, what's
    Your Day like?" "Oh son
It's like fire." I put away
    Telling him it's like everyone
    I listened. Telling him this,
    "Dad, I've thought a long
    Time, and I've thought
How to tell you this. I love
    You dad." He him's haws
    Changes, "Dad, I'm not
    Interested in money."
    Almost miss, then we
    Talk about his day, comfort.

    Two weeks later, my loved
One, our Pearl, I Sold everything
    For her, bought her Pearls
    Glass adorning Her window,
"I'm in this for the Long haul.
    That's what men On trains
    Pulling out from station.
    Longest trip." Our age, she
Is 67. me 70. I'm there to the end,
Till death do us start. Only
Three vows in my life, one
    To The Dove, one to
The Precepts, The one to her,
    Lives together death an end
    Loyalty biggest, how could
    Renonce? How could renounce?
I would rather cut off my arm
    Sitting nine years in caves?
Are stories real? Grains of truth
To save me our lives, all sentient
    Beings. Jesus, Bodhidharma,
    Loving Buddhas, alone, on sundials
    Measured time of silence.

    As spring flowers bloom
    Mockingbirds sing at sunrise
    Fragrant dew settles

    We End our Father's Day

    Dream of poetry, solitary
    Alabaster crystal helps our lives
    With Worlds once oxygen,

    Speech Becomes seeds of hope,
    Red of single ancient flavored,
Sun at 3:00 p.m. of stoneless cut.

    Solitary twelve great white rocks
    Transformed into me, watered
    Love run away, don't run!

    Words shimmer in afternoons,
    Rising speech worlds bright orbs
    Quietly unwholesome, emptiness

You are Not forgotten, DAD don't die!
Truthfully, I weep for father's voice
Once again, I don't leave; I comfort him.

    Dad, don't go!
    Fatherhood cannot resume it's days
Quietly to speak words without pain.
