    June 9th-10th Treeleaf Weekly Zazenkai

    Hello All,

Please 'sit-a-long' with our weekly FRIDAY/SATURDAY 'LIVE FROM TREELEAF' 90 minute ZAZENKAI, netcast from 10am Japan time Saturday morning (that is New York 9pm, Los Angeles 6pm (Friday night), London 2am and Paris 3am (early Saturday morning)

... and to be visible on the following screen during those times and sit-a-long-able any time thereafter ...

    LIVE ZAZENKAI NETCAST IS HERE:
CLICK ON THE TAB ON LOWER RIGHT FOR 'FULL SCREEN

FOR THOSE NOT ALREADY MEMBERS OF THE CIRCLE WHO WISH TO JOIN TO SIT LIVE WITH A CAMERA, INSTRUCTIONS ARE POSTED AT THIS LINK. WE ARE NOW LIMITED TO 10 INDIVIDUALS WITH CAMERAS, BUT ANY NUMBER CAN WATCH LIVE 'ONE WAY' AND SIT-A-LONG VIA THE ABOVE SCREEN. IF JOINING WITH CAMERA, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR MICROPHONE IS MUTED:

00:00 – 00:15 CEREMONY (HEART SUTRA in English) and Dedication
    00:15 – 00:45 ZAZEN
    00:45 – 00:55 KINHIN
    00:55 – 01:25 ZAZEN
    01:25 – 01:30 FOUR VOWS & VERSE OF ATONEMENT

As you can see, our Zazenkai consists of chanting the 'Heart Sutra' in English (the words are at the link below), some full floor prostrations in sets of three (please follow along with me ... or a simple Gassho can be substituted if you wish), followed by our Dedication, Zazen twice for about 30 minutes each, with 10 minutes of Kinhin in between, and we end the sitting with 'The Verse of Atonement' and 'The Four Vows'.

Please join us in the Chanting of the Heart Sutra (although please keep your microphone muted). You can download and print out the Chants we will recite at the following link (PDF):

    Chant Book (PDF)

    or

    Chant Book (SHORT VERSION HTML)

Not everyone realizes that they can join in the Chanting of the Heart Sutra, Verse of Atonement and Four Vows (although we ask that you keep your microphone down). Please follow along with the Chant Book, and let your voice ring!

So, please join us as soon as you can, and we will keep a Zafu open for you.

Remember, when we drop all thought of 'here' 'there' 'now' 'then' ... we are sitting all together!

Jundo, you hit the mark in two ways; on July 22, 2017, I will have 30 years of total sobriety, and NO street drugs, all prescription followed to the letter. Because I am 65, I will and do have many medications, and so some would claim that these are not necessary; my doctor tells me to ignore such situations. So even though my achievement is most recognized by my 12 step group, some in this group would play armature doctor with a high school education. As a retired college and university English teacher, I know I would not accept their broken symbolism. Sitting and Sangha augment my therapies, my reliance on people with 14 years of expert training. Since I have 11 years of advanced training, with four degrees, not just majors, but truly three advanced degrees, my Karma tells me that I am and have done the right things. That I deserve recognition for a beautiful wife (we have been together 38 years) married 35 years, a beautiful and brilliant truly gifted daughter (the apple falls not far from the trees). Your Dharma talk tells me to hold hold fast to my practice, and that I may rely on my Sangha friends for support in what is already a difficult recognition. I sit with The Verse of Atonement, and The Four Vows. MUCH BOWING for this Dharma Talk.

iT IS MY HOPE THAT I can get caught up with the last two Zazenkai. Let me say this--Jundo will be in Omaha for two days, and my wife has said that we might be able to go to Omaha to visit Jundo on his USA trip--he will be 200 miles from our home, and my wife is beginning to see how much this means to me. Today is July 10, 2017--this might not ever happen in my lifetime again. See, I don't drive, and it's up to her.

    Taishi;
By all means, if you are that close you can truly benefit from meeting Jundo personally. I travelled the 200 miles when he and Leon did their eastern tour three years ago and I was glad that I had made the effort. You will find that he is human and sincere and that zen is in the words of Shunryu Suzuki , "nothing special."

Me? Even I would not travel 200 miles to meet me.

Tai shi, I will only be in Omaha on 1 day really, August 3rd. I am sorry the schedule is so tight, but it takes a bit of logistics to get from Chicago to California to Arizona to Texas and points between even in 4 weeks. Write to me.

Not only will I be meeting Jun do but I will participate in a Zazenkai with Tom and Matt and Jun do. Jun do has expressed a desire to visit with my wife though she's very shy and this might not happen. The visit alone with Jun do, Matt, and Tom is worth the trip
