    Junkyo's Kanji is Zen in Japanese modern script.

    After some back and forth, I confirmed that Hishiryo wrote "Mushotoku" or "Nongaining," and he followed very nicely a model from Deshimaru Roshi ...

    It is the mind free of all goal and thought of gain.

    A funny thing is that it stumped several young college educated young Japanese I showed it too, who struggle both with "cursive" script in this age of smart phones, and obscure Buddhist terminology. Even when they saw the Deshimaru version, I had to explain to them what it meant. Now it is crystal clear, and he did a wonderful job ... even though he was not hoping to "gain" our praise!
