Sit-a-Long with Jundo: Zazen for Beginners (7)

In Zazen, thoughts come and go. We simply learn to not grab onto them, not to get tangled in long trains and tangles of thought that pull us in.

We do not see to be completely free of thoughts, but rather, 10,000 times and 10,000 times again ... we gently, quietly, let go. We call this "opening the hand of thought."

Even with emotions, just let them be what they are without pulling us in. One might then find that, by not fighting or dancing with the thoughts, they begin to settle and loose their power.

One might then find, not merely an absence of thoughts and emotions, but a certain clarity and light which comes to shine right through our thoughts and emotions. Then, they are there, but not there too.

Return to the quiet place between thoughts by, again and again, simply turning from the thoughts that come and rope us in ...

... again and again and again.

Remember: recording ends soon after the beginning bells; a sitting time of 15 to 35 minutes is recommended.

    Dear All,

Kindly post all comments, questions, impressions and objections regarding this Series and any of the videos in the following thread. (I have had to do so to keep the lessons in sequence).

If refrencing a particular talk, it woud be nice to mention which one. Thank you so much.
