    [Engaged] Blessing Bags

    Hi all,

So we headed up to the city (San Francisco) today and took the kids to the zoo. Afterwards we treated them to an ice cream sundae at Ghirardelli Square. Then we headed downtown to Market Street. We drove around and found some folks lying on the sidewalk, under the overpass, etc. We had previously assembled "blessings bags" that included snacks, water, socks and various toiletries.

Anyway, we found some folks that appeared to be in need and gave them a bag and told them we were just trying to make them a little more comfortable.

I chatted with them for a little while and tried to get a sense of who they were but generally kept it brief (we double parked in some cases)

The folks I spoke to seemed pretty appreciative and it sparked a good dialog with my kids on the drive home about how fortunate we are and how we shouldn't forget to be grateful for the things we have.

All in all it was a good experience and we've decided to keep 10 blessings bags in the car at all times. This will allow us to engage in spontaneous generosity.
