    Giving Tuesday

    Hello my fellow Treeleafers,

Today is a new day, a day like many others where we can get up off our zafu and step outside into our communities. Jundo has shared a wonderful idea about sharing ideas about sharing and supporting one another.

Giving Tuesday is a cause where we can all come together and give a little something, whether that be with your family, place of employment, or the community you live in. Then we come together here and share any ideas we have or share in the ways we have made a difference. What do you think? Have any ideas?

Have a look and Giving Tuesday and maybe they too can inspire change within you. =)

Thank you all for coming together and making a difference. =)

Also, do you folks know about Treeleaf's Global Days of Service website? Check it out http://globalserviceday.org/

    Hey folks,

One of things that is dear to my heart are our four legged friends. I volunteer at our local SPCA chapter by taking dogs for walks and having some indoor play time with the cats. =) I have also found that giving my time and food is always helpful, but so is the little things needed to help with the day to day operations of the shelter. Below is my local chapter and some of the items/ideas they need help and support in ... maybe this is something you too can do in your community.

    Comox Valley SPCA http://www.spca.bc.ca/branches/comox...l#.VH3QiGTF_XE

Thank you everyone for sharing your time and efforts ... if we all do share just a little, we can do amazing things. =)

Here are some additional ideas ...

    GoodSearch

Goodsearch raises a penny for your cause every time you search the web from its site. Searches are powered by Yahoo. Through the site, you can also raise up to 30% of your purchases and up to 6% of your restaurant dining at participating partners for charities such as Unicef, United Way, American Red Cross, and Feeding America.

    Google One Today

Google One Today Create a culture of giving every day. One Today lets you easily give $1 each day to causes and nonprofits that inspire you. It's a community of generous people like you doing one good deed a day.

    Kiva

Kiva enables you to give a loan (as little as $25) to a small business in developing countries. Choose to help a group of farmers in Vietnam buy a new lawn mower, for example, or a health group in Kenya install chlorine dispensers for safe drinking water. You'll get progress reports on the project and your money back months after the loan (no interest accumulated, though. There is a risk you won't get repaid, but 98.82% of Kiva loans have been repaid). It's a way to lend a helping hand to those in need without really spending money or time.

    Salvation Army, Goodwill, ValueVillage

Do you have extra warm cloths in your closet? Boots that you haven't warn since last Christmas? The time of year is here where the temperatures get down right chilly and there are some folks who may not have warm cloths to ward off those chills. So maybe consider donating those unused items to help people stay warm this time of year.

    Shingen,

    Great suggestions.

I will be donating to Santa for a Senior this year.

Also this is a great website for searching for local and virtual volunteer opportunities: https://www.volunteermatch.org/

Shingen, I did not know there was globalserviceday.org, outside the forum pages. Thanks for the link! (And nice look.)

My small services are related to music, but the results vary.
Last Saturday, I played Christmas carols and Santa Claus-songs (who comes on Rohatsu in Germany... ) for my old day care grand-ma, who has some dementia, and she did not really enjoy it (she hummed along for three carols, than asked me for dance music of her youth).
Then, friends are planning a concert with classical music for the neighbourhood, and have asked me to play too.
It is planned as a pre-Christmas get-together, but as the neighbourhood has to listen to me practicing Bach until then, maybe noone will want to show up any more...
I wish I'd find something to do on a regular basis, something to do in person. Will keep my eyes open.

Thank you everyone for your feedback and ideas, you are a wonderful supportive bunch I have to say. =)

It can be a struggle sometimes to find somewhere we can make a difference, lend a hand, so support, etc. Life is busy and if we only had that extra bit of time. Well, it seems with all of us putting our heads together and coming up with these great ideas, I feel very happy knowing will make a difference!

So thank you ... Let's keep it rolling. =)

    Hello all,

I like to keep it simple, not make it into "another thing to do". I'll make a point of smiling at people one day, or being kinder... Take time to genuinely listen... Small things can go a long way... This time of year, around me, there are plenty of "Giving Trees" - an opportunity to give an anonymous gift to a child in need. The small things...

    Shingen,

Thank you very much for the links. It's so easy to get caught up in the craziness of life that we forget we are not divided and that small efforts together push human kind forward.

Just today I donated to some old folks who needed a little extra cash. Warm and fuzzy feelings all over

Hello everyone, here's another idea....sadly, even with the temperatures being so cold, some children are sent to school without snow pants, hats, or even gloves. The teachers like to have a few extras to help these children and are always happy when people donate these items to their classroom.

Hi Danny, what instrument do you play? I play string bass. I have been playing in orchestras for over 20 years now (man, I am getting old, lol). I took a break this year, but am missing it already.

I haven't looked at the video or the sites yet.
Today I gave 1.5 hours of practice time to a community choir. We will sing on Winter Solstice.

I don't want any attention or rewards for this, but wanted to share this with my sangha because it was such an amazing experience. I donated to the food bank today. I gave good quality stuff---canned tomatoes with Italian seasoning, organic brown rice, unsweetened apple sauce, kidney beans, whole wheat pasta etc. etc. ....the food that I buy for my family all the time.

And tomorrow for giving Tuesday I am working with my student who is severely disabled. I will do what I can to make her afternoon as comfortable as possible.

Again, not wanting to brag or anything, just sharing these beautiful experiences.

    Joyo,

Thank you for sharing your joy and inspiration in giving your time and resources. I don't think it's bragging at all to tell us this. It is a friend sharing a good feeling with friends.

Good on you, Joyo. Gluten free items are also a type of quality food that is always needed at Food banks.

I believe I posted my difficulty finding something 'giving' for my first Ango...until Amnesty came to the rescue with a reminder that the Write for Rights was coming in December http://www.letterssavelives.com/?gcl...FQqDfgodjZcAkw.
Well, it is a bit late, but I am working on some letters to post around the 9th (but time is only an invention of the mind). One letter to the King of Saudi to ask for clemency for a man who had the effrontery to start a liberal blog, a letter to Barack Obama asking for clemency for Chelsea Manning, two postcards to our Dear Prime Minister to remind him about promises not kept. I have some still to go.

I doubt I will change the world, but it may offer some small relief for someone who needs it. The Amnesty letters for Chelsea Manning suggested sending a letter or card to her for her birthday on Dec 19th...that feels like a parcel of Metta. Apparently three of the ten or so 'cases' the letters were sent for last year resulted in releases during the year.
