Question on chanting Heart Sutra. I like chanting Hannya Shingyo, but when chanting in English, it feels awkward. Does anyone else struggle with this and, if so, how do you remedy? It would seem logical that an English speaker would do better chanting in English. For me, it becomes a distraction. Thoughts?

Many don't feel comfortable chanting in English right away. I think the remedy is not to think about it and let it become comfortable over time.

    Hello Shinyo,

If you feel it in your heart while chanting, then language does not matter. =)

    Yes!

Where is the resistance one is feeling, in a Sutra about seeing through resistance?! What words truly hold the Heart of the Heart Sutra?!

But there is no reason not to also chant in one's own language as we chant in English. Some of our Japanese visitors, who do not understand English, chant under their breath the Japanese version as we go our merry way in English.
