Hi Tin_Sandwich (do you have a real name or image btw as we like to get to know people?)

These are the sixteen precepts in short: http://zmm.mro.org/training/receiving-the-zen-precepts/

If you are planning on taking Jukai, there will soon be more in depth discussion on each of these. If you wish to learn more, I can recommend Robert Aitken's 'Mind of Clover' or John Daido Loori's 'Invoking Reality'.

    Hi Tin Sandwich,

Very nice to have you here, and welcome again. But might I suggest you take a bit of a breath, sit, go a bit slower with your questions, sit some more. If you search around the Forum, most will be answered for you.

Also, would you introduce yourself to everyone here. We also ask folks to post a human face (their own if possible) as their avatar.

    Thank you for understanding.

    Hi Tin-sandwich

Precepts are easy to understand yet difficult to really practice.
As we sit and live, they become alive, dynamic and challenging too.
Look at not to kill. Of course we kill all the time, our body is a killing machine striving in a very tough environment. We have to kill micro organism, virus, microbs, and even vegetables...so not to kill is impossible, refrain from killing whenever it is possible then. And a most positive translation, celebrate life, respect life, give life and give yourself to life. Do not kill Buddha nature in you, don't be so harsh and tough with your true self, treasure it and let it bloom .
Don t kill also means don t kill what comes and goes, what is naturally unfolding within-without you. So stop judging, grasping, having opinions and ideas about yourself and others, let go if your most cherished stories...
