Good news for all German speaking sangha members: Realizing Genjokoan has been translated by Ritsunen Linnebach (she did also the Nishijima Shobogenzo translation) and Uwe Biermann. The book is called "Die Verwirklichung der Wirklichkeit" and available from Kristkeitz Verlag directly or thru all book resellers like Amazon or Buch7.de (very recommended socially engaged book shop). Its 18,80 Euro and though I only read a few pages the translation seems just great to me.

Any opinions on the German Shobogenzo??
I read some lines from a free pdf, and if I'll be ever able to understand any of this, it might be in German.
Reading the English translation was really really... weird, and the German a little bit bit bit less so.
I'm wondering if it's me having trouble with English (not to mention with Dogen), or does a translation of a translation even things out and make it readable, but wrong?
Kristkeitz say they are planning a new edition of the German Shobogenzo.
Better wait for that?

The German translation of Shobogenzo as you get it from Kristkeitz is as direct as it can be, translated from Japanese to German from Ritsunen Linnebach and Nishijima Roshi himself. Though I assume Nishijima was helping a lot and explaining he probably was not writing German text. Btw, Yudo Seggelke, another dharma heir of Nishijima was also involved in this translation and he also published a number of introductions on Shobogenzo in German. The "other" Shobogenzo in German from Angkor Verlag is (at least in the most part) translated from English. I prefer the Kristkeitz edition, and though it is expensive one can buy one part of the four at a time and work with that for a year (no kidding).Originally Posted by Danny B

For me, reading a German translation is really really weird(since all my Zen training has been in English) - but I should give it a try some time.
