    Death of Akong Rinpoche

Although this is not strictly related to Zen, I am sure many people have heard of Samye Ling Buddhist monastery in Scotland. I have just heard the sad news that its founder, Akong Rinpoche has been reported killed (his brother used the word 'assassinated') in China along with another monk and a family member: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotlan...tland-24449692

Many in the UK and elsewhere have benefitted greatly from one of the first Buddhist centres to be established in the west and he will be greatly missed.

Much metta to his family and the whole Samye Ling community.

I am sorry to hear this, and we sit for Akong Rinpoche and his family.

The Buddhist world also notes the passing of another great Teacher in the Theravada Tradition, S.N. Goenka ...

That is very sad to hear, Jundo. I have many friends who have gained a lot from Goenka's system of vipassana.

Sitting for all the masters whose names have been said and for the ones unsaid.

Sitting with compassion for people creating chaos rooted in greed, ignorance and aversion.

    Hello,

I just returned from a weekend retreat where quite a few UK dharma pioneer old-timers were present...his name was mentioned even once or twice. I am sure they are devastated now.

My prayers and wishes go out to all of his family and students.

I agree. Very sad tragedy, but may all great teachers' legacies live on through our practice.
