Hi Lisa!

The name of the book was taken from this haiku I wrote after contemplating rain fall.

secretos sin tiempo
vuelcan sus aromas
en la tierra mojada

timeless secrets
pour their aromas
onto the wet soil

Each drop of water holds a tiny universe full of hidden stories. When we calm the mind we should be able to listen it all :)

My view on the way to work this morning. It reminded me of a saying: Life's not about waiting for the storm to pass but to learn how to dance in the rain.

Unfortunately that saying has been copyrighted by Vivianne Greene so I can not use it anymore.

It's only partly true anyway.

Those are cute pictures, Shawn!! :) And it got me thinking, I don't think I've ever shown pictures of my husband and kids to my Treeleaf family. So here are some pictures. The picture with my kids and the white dog was taken right before he died. We took him to the park and gave him one last good memory. Very hard day :( Our new dog (Yoshi) is the puppy my youngest son is posing with. And you can tell my youngest son likes to either make funny faces, or hide his face completely when it's time for a picture.

This is my dear granny, my dear friend, my trusted teacher who left this world this month. I took this photo last year when I went and visited her ... she had a way with animal, a clear and kind heart. You see, my dog Bodhi who is on her lap is a rescue from Mexico. I had been working with him as he was afraid of his own shadow, but that day when I took granny out for some Starbucks (she loved a good cup of Earl Grey and a scone) he just climbed up onto her lap and laid down - It brought happy tears to my eyes. =)

From that moment Bodhi and I spent time chatting with the other folks in the care facility and that little guy shined. It was amazing to see the transformation and the joy it brought. So I decided to work towards getting Bodhi trained as a companion dog ... we are still in the process as his confidence still needs some work, but he is doing amazing, truly coming into his own. Part of my goal/practice is to share this little guys beautiful spirit with folks who are maybe feeling alone or need a smile on their face and in their hearts. =)

... I don't want to rush things and I feel more comfortable as a junior member of Treeleaf.

Hi Elgwyn,

We actually have no "junior" or "senior" members here. Please put that out of your mind. (I think the forum software calls someone a "senior member" when they have a certain number of posts or the like. That is a problem with the software, and we should see about doing away with that).

Priests here are in no way "senior". They are, if anything, in a role of service, and should be humble in being so. Perhaps all are members are "senior" and priests are "junior." Let us all be senior and junior to each other at once! Master Nanquan once said that, were he to meet a child of three years old who could teach him, he would become the child’s pupil, and if he were to meet someone over a hundred years old whom he could teach, then he would teach that person. That's the right attitude!

It will be a great joy for you to be able to take Bodhi to companion dog places. I hope he gets over his fears. We have had dogs that you could trust with anyone; one we had to have euthenised last March was fearless and loved everyone. Ya know, maybe one reason I first liked living in Japan is that crooked teeth are considered "cute". Since my parents never could afford braces back in the day, I have learned to like my crooked smile. See the resemblance? Can you tell which one is me?

Why are Japanese women paying hundreds of pounds to make perfectly straight teeth look crooked and fang-like? Hi Jundo!

I have been laughing at the whole stuff since the dentist suggested the bracers, because yes, that's only for teenagers who want some pain in their lives. The obvious option was to put an implant, but that is way too expensive. :D

The infection took years to develop. It first killed the tooth, that's why it never hurt, but it grew and displaced all the lower teeth. After having the tooth pulled out, there was is finally room to put the other teeth back in place.

Oh and Japanese girls look absolutely lovely!

This morning when I checked the temperature, it was about 7 degrees F. Even now, it's about 14 degrees, and will get colder from now on. Maybe it will be below zero. LOL. Some of you live in warm climates, and sometimes I miss being in a place like Australia or even California. The truth is that spring is a real event in the upper Midwest. I look forward to flowers and bugs and getting my cameras out to take close ups in the parks. This is the beauty of the real awakening of the earth. This was no intended prostration, and the fall crashed my glasses.

In mid-February we trapped a feral cat at the local dump. She is extremely skittish and terrified of people, so we didn't expect to be able to do much more than a TNR ("trap, neuter, release"). She has been living in our spare bathroom, and each evening some (or all) of our family sits on the bed in the room next door to read, talk to her, and generally "be friendly humans in her space". Sometimes one of our other cats will come up and be a "feline ambassador". As I've mentioned to Dosho's 11EST sitting group, I also have moved Zafu and Zabuton right outside the door to her room (so we all have been sitting Zazen with her each night). I open her door during sittings (again, so she hears and sees a non-threatening human). She has tolerated all this from a hiding place in her sleeping box, or behind the toilet.

But this weekend: a breakthrough! My son managed to coax her out of her room to play with a toy - in a room with humans in it!

2399

We still do not know exactly what will happen with her (we have four other cats and two dogs - one dog being an ex-hunting dog we're not 100% sure about with a skittish cat), but for now she has a safe and warm home, and is learning to enjoy friendship and fun.

Awwww, that is awesome Joyo! Elsie is playful and really cute. She is a tiny, with very short legs. Combined with superpoof hair, she is most unusual looking, but in a striking way.

Name sequence was: Little Cat, shortened to LC, expanded to Elsie. ^_^

Also, I wanted to clarify, even if we end up not providing her "forever home", she will not go back to the wild. We will work through friends, family, and the local animal rescue group should we need to place her, but we are ever more optimistic that she can stay with us.
