Well regardless of which solution I try, even a shared link from Google Drive or Photos, I get an invalid file error unless the size is below 250 kb. So I give up on posting large pics as others seem to do without issues. So here's a photo of our German Sheppard Sophie, who sits with me each morning. This was on her 10th birthday a few weeks back and she's doing well for an old girl. [monk]

Hi Seishin - if the photos are uploaded to Treeleaf (by using the “picture” button on the post toolbar) then they need to be less than 250kb. You can however use the IMG tag without uploading them to Treeleaf and then they will display inline at whatever their native resolution is.

I’ll try to remember to post some more detailed instructions when I’m in front of a computer.

I would be grateful for the instructions, as I can only find the Insert Image icon on the toolbar, which I assume you mean by the picture button, hence the size restriction.

Hi Sekishi, Tai Shi here,

When you post resizing instructions, please keep me in mind. By the way, I have found an excellent way to partially control much of my pain only dimly remembered from 10 years ago, that being-- I hold my tongue motionless in the center of my mouth. I relax every muscle (the ones I notice), and completely loosen my jaw. The Idea is to relax every muscle I can "not" think of, and I feel better in my neck all over. I suspect this in a form of mindfulness and not paying attention. I would still like direction for resizing because I find the available software baffles me. I have beautiful photos on my phone, so there might be a way to use Tap A Talk, an app I sometimes used to enter Treeleaf Zendo. Thank you.

Hi Taishi - if you have Tapatalk, that is probably the easiest way to post. It has a feature that will resize the photos for you.

I will work on instructions for posting from Tapatalk in the next day or so.

I think two sets are good. Having it in the faq makes it a convenient place to direct folks down the road if /when it comes up again.

Plus your instructions are better. :)

For me photography is a meditation-- I have a great book-- The Tao of Photography. Originally published for and with film, the book is mostly large color prints, one gains the expansiveness of photography and the Yin/ Yang of this universe. Where is it we travel as human kind? Photos show the beauty of landscape, nature, and scenic photography. The grail of vision attainable by the person with the camera-- consider even the pin hole camera-- a tool for film, and 35 mm film is obtainable at discount stores. The glory of Kodachrome is gone but today we have Fuji Film and hundreds of thousands of ways to use the old reliable relics of the past. I own a Canon Rebel film camera with two zoom lenses and electronic flash. Life can be sweet again with a role of 35 mm film and a camera.

PORT RIVER SHIPWRECKS

If this pic works (and if people are interested), I'll upload some photos of my kayaking expedition along the Port River, about an hour from my house. Not only does it contain numerous wrecks but is also a dolphin sanctuary. They are not scared of small boats and will swim directly under you. They are such beautiful creatures.
This is the remains of the Santiago. The Santiago was a 455-ton barque launched in 1856. It was built by Henry Balfour of Methil, Fife for the Liverpool shipping company Balfour Williamson. It sailed mainly between Liverpool and Chile, but also to Australia. Its remnant hull which lies in a ship's graveyard in South Australia is considered to be 'the oldest intact iron hull sailing vessel in the world.

Hi Rob,

Really cool stuff. My experience with wrecks is more of a diving destination - kind of crazy seeing it still above the water line. I am really envious of you being able to spend time with Dolphins.

Sweet!
I remember sailboarding at Port Adelaide as part of some kind of 'take poor kids from Elizabeth out for the day' thing back in the early 80's. The only wrecks I've been close to were on Moreton Island here in Queensland. They too are partially above water and are a sanctuary area. I've snorkelled and done a bit of freediving on them. It's beautiful but there is a deep channel between the beach and the wrecks that often has very poor visability. To say I shit myself while swimming to the wrecks from shore is an understatement as Moreton Bay is home to many Tiger Sharks and Bull Sharks.
Keep the awesome pictures and history coming, I miss South Australia so much.

Hi Anna :)
I grew up in Elizabeth - Harvey Rd, Elizabeth Grove to be exact but only for my first 5 years of life. So a good 40 years ago lol.
I too, would be struggling to remain calm swimming to the Morton wrecks. I have a phobia about sharks. They are beautiful creatures but I prefer them from a distance!
I'm glad you enjoyed the pic. I'll continue to post more and provide a little info for the ones that I can.

PORT RIVER SHIPWRECKS
Oregon Pine (Dorothy H Sterling) was a six-masted lumber schooner completed in 1920, which was built as a result of the shipbuilding efforts associated with World War I. She sailed in the West Coast lumber trade, bringing lumber from the Columbia River to Shanghai and Port Adelaide, Australia. It was completed in 1920, as part of a contract by the Emergency Fleet Commission "for 12 hulls of its own design, to be delivered without engines. There were no cancellations." Her name was to be Cotys, with a sister ship of Cossa, both six-masted schooners. Upon completion, the schooners were renamed Oregon Pine and Oregon Fir, and later in their careers, Dorothy H. Sterling and Helen B. Sterling, respectively. The schooners were chartered for offshore voyages from the Columbia River with lumber. The two ships were of identical specifications: 2,526 tons, 267 ft. long, with a capacity of 2,225,000 feet of lumber. In 1928, the Dorothy H Sterling carried lumber from Puget Sound to Port Adelaide, Australia. There she was "libelled for harbor dues and crew wages." The ship was broken up in Port Adelaide in 1930 and her remains were towed to the Garden Island Ships' graveyard near Port Adelaide on 6 June 1932 where they remain to the present time.

I am also a member of 500px.com where photographers exchange their photos and I get most of my photo fix there. It’s like a drug. Need 12 step meetings. :-)

Will try to do better.

Beautiful! Where do you live?, I have forgotten. We have Amish around here that farm with horses, and use no electricity, actually they built our barn.

I had a horsey day today. Officially ignoring Doctors’ (or at least Pharmacists’) orders...

Looks great Jakuden! Horses are so beautiful and come in second only to dogs as pets in my opinion. They are also fine subjects for photography. How many do you own?

Thank you! We have two, this mare Dixie, and a senior palomino gelding named Ketis. Shinshi and I were recently discussing how horses are the ultimate Zen teachers, as they immediately reflect back to us their perception of our every mood and action. It’s impossible not to become more self aware around them!

Dear kissydear, I've seen some very beautiful photos as I was passing your little rectangle. I have taken beautiful photos even with my camera phone. So why the little rectangle? I know from my recliner it seems restful. But, my left knee is wrapped in a cooling jacket of a polar ice machine. But from my recliner, the view is becoming monotonous. However, I don't hurt like I did, The artificial knee is healing. Soon, it will be just as, almost, as the fresh natural one. I damaged nerves that I will never get back. Anything bad might happen to my knee, thigh, calf, and I won't feel the full force. I only hope I can avoid danger. All these "if s." I am so much improved, and soon I will be walking, and I live with discomfort for the improvement. I'm Listening to soft music in my favorite chair, body reclined, with a computer I doubled in clock speed just while living in my chair, using mouse and keyboard here by changing the bios. I am reasonably content. I have never learned to resize photos on a computer though I'm told it's simple with my existing software. So I have in words given you a different picture. See, I am a poet.

Believe me Jukuden Horses are not the ultimate Zen teacher, so try pain, try photography, try poetry, Haiku, Sonnet, wine making while abstaining from the wine. There are billions upon billions of galaxies and each one is a Zen teacher, or a billion upon billion Zen teachers. Just saying, I am healing from a total knee revision of a total knee, double the pain because it was a revision, and surgery was more than double in every way. A few years back Daizan said pain would be my Zen teacher. He was right.

I would love to take a photography class. it would be fun to take even more beautiful photos like the ones shared here. I understand a little of your pain. I did not need surgery as you did, but I injured the muscles in my foot and leg, so my view recently has been from a reclining position. In that moment of the picture, i felt like you did, somewhat restful and happy to be with my dogs. I do like the picture of improvement you paint. I am working towards that too.

Thank you for your thoughts and attention. I will do Metta for you for both of us.

next time, I will share a more interesting photo! And perhaps from a different perspective.[morehappy]

Yeah, I love this place. I wish I was able to be here more often. After this week it will probably be a very long time before I get to come back again. Ive always wanted to go to BC too! I will probably get to visit some of Washington on Friday, and see the Oregon coast before I head back Saturday.

And thank you, Sara! It was really surreal there! Truly a special place.

Thank you! I'm going to remember this when I get to BC someday! :) I used to be really into longboarding, and BC was one of my dream locations I wanted to skate at. I doubt I will be skating when I go now but it's just so beautiful in videos and photos I'd love to see it in person.

This is pretty random, and a pretty neat coincidence considering our bilingual zazenkai this weekend with Kyonin. It's Hispanic Heritage Month in the US. I was at Lincoln Home National Historic Site this weekend and they had a display up about the Mexican-American War in the 1840s and then-Congressman Abraham Lincoln's position on it (spoiler alert: he was against it.)

They gave several of the scheduled tours of Lincoln's Home in Spanish last weekend, too!

Dunno but here is a description:

https://blog.buddhagroove.com/zen-ox-herding-an-overview-of-the-10-stages-of-enlightenment/

First Glimpse of the Ox. This refers to a person’s first “spiritual experience,” or satori (flash of insight.) It can take the form of an epiphany, Oneness-awareness while out in nature, a near-death experience, or kundalini during meditation. The “glimpse” makes an impact and inspires us to continue on the journey.

Yes, again I have no complaints! Readings in the Dharma are a good thing. I found on two occasions expectations of myself untenable. That is in the case of the book club and Readings in the Koan of existence some concepts I was not prepared for. This, I raced ahead or lagged behind. In the case of the Grave Precepts and Jukai, I simply had read materials before. Thus, I raced ahead without consideration
Of others. In each case, because over the years since I left formal study, I guess I was unwilling to take on the role of student. So, now it is time for an apology in that I had tied my own expectations to group work such that I refused to submit. For me, this is inattentive to “right action.” Shall I say that even now I am the “cook without a kitchen” and Dogen would say I am showing off thereby being only in my own world.

Maybe it is time to lay aside expectations and say that I am in sooner ways becoming a stogy old man, and that I am not pliable. For this I am sorry, but like my eyes which no longer adjust easily to changes of focus, my mind is less willing. It becomes less a question of following the order of things! I race ahead with easy concepts as I at one time had the opportunity of study with a more advanced member. But, how is more advanced portrayed? Portrayal of absolute acceptance makes fo unreliable expectations of my study. I’ve become my own absolute teacher even questioning such as compassion or “Agape.” Christian love or Buddhist compassion in the present does not exist for me. Even my “lah” activities are purely my own work. I am not a good team player, and sooner or later I become critical or demanding. I lag behind or race ahead. When corrected I complain, and sometimes play only a part of my own ambitions. What I need is time alone to digest ideas on my own, then I can return at sometime to group study!

Some years back my therapist asked the question is advanced psychology as in Rogers’ On Becoming a Person. In point of fact, I was not ready but let on like I was never again mentioning the book to him. At that point I was not ready to undertake philosophy and psychology. I am in need of reading on my own at my own pace, dipping in here, reading as I can. I realize this is a kind of lie or even stealing. Yet, I’m too hard on myself.

You might note here I have used concepts of Dogen’s How to Cook your Life, and so maybe I just need to be allowed to informally apply difficult concepts in my own way as I traverse our commentaries in the Zendo. Our Zendo is not spoken discourse and as I have argued the Zendo does not reach as many as 1/3 of this world population. So who benefits? Only the literate upper class, and all must be able to read and write. All must have access to technology and even I would argue advanced learning. An individual must be able to not only have access to technology but be able to operate that technology, and such skills as passwords and Skype, and even the program that runs the Zendo must be mastered.

Now how does this all pertain to my ability to participate? Well, see because of the way I learn with some learning disabilities I cannot follow a thread, and I am not always logical! I argue that a group learning on this written Zendo omits my way of learning with the spoken word. Even in graduate school I had to Hear concepts with my ears before I could comment, I also had to review wit a professor in one on one situations even then because of my memory and even my timidity I was unlikely to learn without verbal repetition. This is why Poetry suits me because it is an oral tradition and I can even hear it in my head, in my own mind, and I can follow writing that mimics speech. This is the reason I had difficulty and do have difficulty with spelling unless I can sound out the words! English language is not like this and linguistics is easier for me than grammar because I can understand deep structure of language. This is no Joan and not pedantry. This is my handicap wit groups on paper because I have difficulty wit the written logic. I can make my own written rules and sometimes folks can follow me, sometimes not.

I am not lying or stealing. I am a bit slow, not as intelligent in traditional ways as you might be. One professor in grad school told me I write with elisions and leave the logic to you. Really, and I expect you to follow me; this would be easier if we could just talk it out.

Hi Jishin, your photographs are breathtaking, and accomplished. I have taken some beautiful photos, and yet, you know your way around camera and software, and I look on with much admiration. I will tell you that I have three very good Nikon DSLR cameras, and several point and shoot cameras, and what I see of your work shows excellent mastery of excellent cameras.

Hi Folks, it will be my pleasure to attempt sending a few photos using my iPhone 6, soon obsolete, trying to talk Marjorie into letting me buy an iPhone 8 S but you all know how I get into trouble with any kind of time payments, so perhaps I must wait for such a venture a few years when I have money for an upgrade iPhone. If I could only master step down settings on Photoshop Elements 2019 which I opted for instead of paying time payments on Creative Cloud, There is no guarantee I could master Creative Cloud either. I will attempt to research settings on for Elements on Chrome browser, or Google it! Wish me luck. So, if any of you could offer advice about Photoshop Elements, I would be very thankful-- no real gratitude is already there for this thread.
