About 20 minutes north of me there is a temple in Princeton, NJ. The New Jersey Vihara Buddhist Meditation Center. It serves the Theravada Sri Lankan community. Behind their building is an amazing 30 ft. (10m) statue of a Snow White Buddha. It is bathed in lights at night. It has become a roadside attraction and been featured in magazines and websites. There is also a path through a wooded area with sign posts quoting the Dhammapada that really struck me. If you're ever in the area you gotta go.

Thank you for posting all the beautiful pictures.

If you guess, what's inside, I'll show a picture of it...
(hopefully, someone guesses right, I am really eager to show ;-) )

Shingen,
The line about Dust reminded me of lyrics to a song from own of my favorite artists.
Dust by Trevor Hall
Well, I’ve been told of a hurricane
The type of love where you forget your name
I ask the question almost every day,
“When will it find me?”
All around me castles falling down
Well they were never real anyhow
Through the story and through the sound come up upon me
Who am I but the dust of the Most High
Drifting like a leaf in the summer sky
Hoping one day you will see, that what’s inside of you, is what’s inside of me
Who am I?
But the dust of the most high

Lubbock is also known as hub of the plains. It's about 250,000 population. I live in the outskirts and looking in it's flat city and looking out it's cotton farms. Every 30 miles or so there is about a 5,000 population town. These towns developed as rest stops/watering holes for folks traveling across the plains in the old days when traveling by horse and carriage. About one day travel with carriages and horses. The tractor is exactly across my son's elementary school.

Some Koans are not great mysteries ...
Rak-Su are a British boy band, formed in Watford. The band's name is a shortening of "Tracks v. Suits", i.e. "music and fun vs. adult life."[1]
https://www.raksumusic.com/about/
"Rakusu" (絡子) literally means "abbreviated" Kesa. It expresses that tracks are just suits, suits precisely tracks.

This zafu was a present from my wife for our nine years engagement anniversary:

Here is my home altar, with my new Buddha statue (another present) and a butsudan set that she gave me for my birthday in January:
5695
Here is my present to her, a hundred pen case:
5696
Here is a small artisans and farmers fair that we went this saturday (spent the day actually, drinking home made beer, eating vegan snacks and sweets, and buying organic fruits and vegetables, kombucha and cooperative made honey):
5697
5698
The vegan snacks were made by my wife's tutored student and the beer was made by a fellow teacher in her University.
Good week to all.

Sat todayThis all looks great! I'd love to have proper statues on my altar at home, but my wife isn't fully comfortable with the idea yet, so for now I choose to hold off in order to not cause her discomfort :)
However, I still occasionally leave tea or rice on my altar. Not sure whether she has noticed yet.
Perhaps I will post a photo of it later, though I am unsure as to whether it will be well received here.

Remember that an Altar is truly not a "place," not full or empty, and that even when there is or is not a "Buddha Statue" there or here, yet there is nothing there and everything and every place, for everything is the true Buddha Statue and the true Buddha Statue is everything and nothing at all.
So, don't sweat the cosmetics and decorations too much. gassho1

I would like to have a few proper statues someday, even if small, but I know it isn't at all important since all things are Buddha :)
That being the case, statues aren't any great priority for me :)

Here is my altar currently. I remain a Christian as I practice Zen, so I still believe in God and the lessons Jesus taught. Hence having a Bible and two crosses. The green cross on the left is a placeholder for a Buddha, the cross on the right is a placeholder for an altar guardian. You can see that I offer tea and rice from time to time. I also light a candle and burn incense as aim able. I know this is definitely out of the ordinary, but it is close to my heart for the time being.

Also, here is a box I've bought for storing my juzu beads to keep them safe when not in use. It is a craft store box, so I'll likely be painting it red, attaching a tag with a painted design on it, and then clear coating it :)

Your home altar is great, Victor. I think our home altar should reflect ourselves. I don't see anything wrong with a Christian (or Muslim, or Jew, or Hindu, or Shinto, or Candomble believers) to also practice Zen, unless our particular church that requires us to hate everyone who doesn’t believe in them, hate LGBTQ+ people or elect a neofascist President (sorry, it happened here in Brazil!).
There are many Zen Buddhist Christians. I myself came from a very very Catholic family. I still haven't told them yet that I don't consider myself a Christian anymore (only my wife and my closest cousin know). I don’t know if I will, as it can became a source of suffering for them.
I still hold dear to the Our Lady of Aparecida little statue that my great-grandmother gave me some years before passing away:
5701
And sometimes I go to the mass with my mother and grandmother and pray to Mary Bodhisattva and Jesus Bodhisattva. I consider them to be faces of compassion like Kannon Bodhisattva and Amida Buddha. They are not two, by the way.

Sorry Jakuden I have only just seen this. I took the pic in the street looking up at the underneath of a balcony. Very odd as it seems to be alive but can't be.

Kakunen, that is a very lovely spot! Thank you for sharing that.
I was in Portland, Oregon first part of the week - really loved it there and plan to go back in a month or so. On the flight back home I was fortunate enough to have crystal clear skies from Oregon all the way until about Billings, Montana so I got to see a lot of the beautiful views that part of the country had to offer. I spent the entire flight watching out the window and taking lots of photos. This photo was one of my favorites - this isn't far from Portland - the various mountains we had in view as we were making our ascent to our eventual 35000 ft. Pretty sure the one closest in view is Mt. Hood.

Sidebar question for folks posting here. ................
How do the folks that manage to post HUGE images get them to meet the file size requirements that the forum imposes?
Whenever I downsize a pic to meet the filesize max limit, it ends up like a postage stamp, then some folks arrive and post a huge mural.
If anyone has some guidance around small files but BIG pics please share - PM if you don't want to hijack this thread. [monk]

Two folks just asked about this so here you go. :)
How to show large images on Treeleaf.
When you post images you have two options - to upload the image to Treeleaf or link to an image offsite. If you upload it will be small. If you link offsite it will be whatever size it is on the other site.
For example I have images hosted on imgur.com. This is a picture included as an external link. This is my buddy Sonja - kind of cute don't you think? :)
https://i.imgur.com/vUWQTdP.jpg
Note the image is too large to upload but it can be shown.
If you want to upload an image (which will be small but here forever) there are two ways. Note that uploaded images are always shown as thumbnails first. You have to click them to see the larger version - and they have the size restriction. The first way to upload is to select the image icon on the reply box and then select the file on your computer. So you use the "From Computer" Tab and then select your file, then upload. Those are the steps I used for this next image.
5789
If you want to use an image on an external site you use the other tab option on the screen "From URL"
5790
Note that the "Retrieve remote file and reference locally" box is unchecked. If you do that the image will be big as it linked externally.
If you leave it checked the image will be uploaded to Treeleaf just as if you uploaded it from your computer and the image will be small .
I am guessing the size limit it to keep down the amount of storage that is required on the Treeleaf servers to host images. Pictures take up a lot of space!
Hope this helps.

What a beautiful blue eyed Collie, thank you for using him/her as a demo. I've normally uploaded direct from my PC and have used windows Paint to resize until it meets the size limits. Sounds like if I upload the original to something like Google Drive or Photos, I can use the shared link URL to maintain size. I'll try that next time.

Shinshi, Aussies are my favorite! They are smart like Border Collies but not quite so driven and OCD [emoji23] She’s gorgeous!
Love all the critter and children pics [emoji7][emoji7][emoji7]

Sidebar question for folks posting here. ................
How do the folks that manage to post HUGE images get them to meet the file size requirements that the forum imposes?
Whenever I downsize a pic to meet the filesize max limit, it ends up like a postage stamp, then some folks arrive and post a huge mural.
If anyone has some guidance around small files but BIG pics please share - PM if you don't want to hijack this thread. [monk]
Hey Seishin,
nearly all said bei Shinshi...
Personally, I like to upload to Treeleaf, because this way, the images will stay together with the text.
When hosted externally, there is a chance, that they're gone some day and in the (than old) post, there will be broken images.
I am resizing with a photo software and there is usually an option for JPG quality. When reducing the quality in the compression algorithm,
the images can be still big, but use less memory.
Gassho,

Aussies are the best, most perfect exemplar of dogyness. Well that is what I think. You described them perfectly. Sonja is my third and all have been treasures. All unique - all different - but Aussies at heart. They are not a leave at home while you go to work dog. I am so grateful I work from home and get to hang out with her all day. :)

Some photos from a little project my family has been working on the past year or so.

Oak trim and pine posts and beams milled from the trees we had to cut to make room for the house:

Deep bows of gratitude to the many many people who have helped us along the way, and to the billions who want. May all sentient beings be free of suffering.
