Dear All,

Our monthly ZAZENKAI for September marks the start of our JUKAI (Undertaking the Precepts) season of sewing and Precepts study, as well as the continuation of our ongoing ANGO (90-Day Special Practice Period) ...

Please 'sit-a-long' with our MONTHLY 4-hour ZAZENKAI, netcast LIVE 8am to noon Japan time Saturday morning (that is New York 7pm to 11pm, Los Angeles 4pm to 8pm (Friday night), London midnight to 4am and Paris 1am to 5am (early Saturday morning)) ... and visible at the following link during those times ...

LIVE ZAZENKAI NETCAST at JUSTIN.TV:
REMEMBER TO CLICK ON "FULL SCREEN" VERSION!

http://www.justin.tv/treeleafzen (http://http://www.justin.tv/treeleafzen)

But FEAR NOT if not possible for you to join 'live' in your location at those times, as the entire sitting is recorded in 'REAL TIME' and available for full participation 'ON DEMAND' at ANY TIME after that, no different from the 'live' sitting . Just click then on the links below:

THE 'REAL TIME, ANY TIME' recorded version is divided into 3 parts as follows (click on the links) :

00:00 - 00:50 CEREMONY (HEART SUTRA / SANDOKAI IN ENGLISH) & ZAZEN
00:50 - 01:00 KINHIN
01:00 - 01:30 ZAZEN
01:30 - 01:50 KINHIN
ZAZENKAI PART I LINK:
http://justin.tv/treeleafzen/b/294699547

01:50 - 02:30 DHARMA TALK & ZAZEN
02:30 - 02:40 KINHIN
TALK & ZAZEN PART 2 LINK:
http://justin.tv/treeleafzen/b/294699847

02:40 - 03:15 ZAZEN
03:15 - 03:30 KINHIN
03:30 - 04:00 METTA CHANT & ZAZEN, VERSE OF ATONEMENT, FOUR VOWS, & CLOSING
ZAZENKAI PART 3 LINK:
http://justin.tv/treeleafzen/b/294700158

Our Zazenkai consists of our chanting the 'Heart Sutra' and the 'Identity of Relative and Absolute (Sandokai)' in English (please download our Chant Book at the link below), some full floor prostrations (please follow along with me ... or a simple Gassho can be substituted if you wish), a little talk by me ... and we close with the 'Metta Chant', followed at the end with the 'Verse of Atonement' and 'The Four Vows'. Oh, and lots and lots of Zazen and walkin' Kinhin in between!

Please download and print out the Chant Book (PDF) at the following link:

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2231 (http://http://www.treeleaf.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2231)

I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU POSITION YOUR ZAFU ON THE FLOOR IN A PLACE WHERE YOU ARE NOT STARING DIRECTLY AT THE COMPUTER SCREEN, BUT CAN GLANCE OVER AND SEE THE SCREEN WHEN NECESSARY. YOUR ZAFU SHOULD ALSO BE IN A POSITION WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE COMPUTER SCREEN WHILE STANDING IN FRONT OF THE ZAFU FOR THE CEREMONIES, AND HAVE ROOM FOR BOWING AND KINHIN.

ALSO, REMEMBER TO SET YOUR COMPUTER (& SCREEN SAVER) SO THAT IT DOES NOT SHUT OFF DURING THE 4 HOURS.

I hope you will join us ... an open Zafu is waiting. When we drop all thought of 'here' 'there' 'now' 'then' ... we are sitting all together!

Gassho, Jundo

Hi all,

I'll be hosting a Google+ Hangout during the live broadcast, so please join in if you are so inclined! And if you don't have access to Google+ or generally have no idea what I'm talking about, just post a reply in this thread or send me a PM and I'll try to get you setup.

Hope to see some folks there!

Right after that (live would be 1-5 am my time) I'll do the re-sit (so 5-9 am my time), also on Google+, so everyone up early in Europe (or everyone else who likes) is invited to join me, see the Treeleaf calendar for the time if you are not sure.

My son just got the flu, and looks like that I'm next :|
I'll save the 4 hour zazenkai for the beginning of the next week.

Big gassho to all the zazenkainers both live and on playback :P

Thanks for the sit everyone! Was wonderful.

A big hello to Tiki!! I can still remember about this time last year when he was hit by a car and lost his tail and busted up his leg. Was so nice of him to visit...made me smile.

** Edit/Update ** Here's the Sit-A-Long about Tiki...Dumb Animal (http://www.treeleaf.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=3037&p=42807)

Wanted to share a quick screenshot I took while we were switching to kinhin. Many bows to all who sat/will sit.

That's Chris, Engyo, Dosho, Choco, Ron & Me...Jundo & our guest in Tsukuba was on the right. :)

Deep bows,

Shawn

My thanks to all who sat, are sitting, or will sit...deep bows.

And my apologies to those who sat with me on Google+ for my frequent comings and goings. I had a hard time sitting tonight and hope it was not too disruptive.

I had to laugh at myself.
This was the first time doing Zazenkai with all the company (Google+). I'm used to doing it by myself, watching Jundo. The first hour (and occasionally afterwards), I was like a deer caught in the glare of headlights. Just hanging on for the ride (dance?). I'm telling ya'; "mindfulness" might just as well have been the name of some quaint logging town back in the bush around here. Anyway, I wasn't there.
*edit...but then I guess I am guilty of that when I write posts sometimes, as well. I am sorry for any karma of mine which could cause even discomfort for another person.

Engyo

Thanks to everyone and sorry for the sudden departure. I'm a single dad for these last few days and occasionally planned scheduling falls through. ;)

I'm grateful for the portion of zazenkai I spent with the group on google+, too brief though it was. I'll catch up later today.

Gassho, everyone.

Well, there's an enlightened being for you.

Really enjoyed the talk today. Sometimes I need to hear the basics again . . . and suddenly sewing all those little rakusu pieces together makes a lot more sense.

Sitting with you beyond space and time.

Glad I was able to make it through, despite the kiddos running around. Sounds like you had some commotion as well :)

Try as I may I was only able to find the time to sit through the first 2 of the 3 :(
One of my ango commitments is to sit the whole 4hrs worth(I usually only manage to do 1/2). I plan to keep commitment by sitting the rest on Friday(my next day off of work)!!

It's not easy to find a 4-hour chunk of time to be sure! I actually made myself get up at 445am one morning so I could finish the whole thing without messing with the family schedule too much. Made for a sleepy day :)
