Our Zazenkai consists of our chanting the 'Heart Sutra' and the 'Identity of Relative and Absolute (Sandokai)' in English (please download our Chant Book at the link below), some full floor prostrations (please follow along with me ... or a simple Gassho can be substituted if you wish), a little talk by me ... and we close with the 'Metta Chant', followed at the end with the 'Verse of Atonement' and 'The Four Vows'. Oh, and lots and lots of Zazen and walkin' Kinhin in between!

Please download and print out the Chant Book (PDF) at the following link:

I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU POSITION YOUR ZAFU ON THE FLOOR IN A PLACE WHERE YOU ARE NOT STARING DIRECTLY AT THE COMPUTER SCREEN, BUT CAN GLANCE OVER AND SEE THE SCREEN WHEN NECESSARY. YOUR ZAFU SHOULD ALSO BE IN A POSITION WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE COMPUTER SCREEN WHILE STANDING IN FRONT OF THE ZAFU FOR THE CEREMONIES, AND HAVE ROOM FOR BOWING AND KINHIN.

ALSO, REMEMBER TO SET YOUR COMPUTER (& SCREEN SAVER) SO THAT IT DOES NOT SHUT OFF DURING THE 4 HOURS.

I hope you will join us ... an open Zafu is waiting. When we drop all thought of 'here' 'there' 'now' 'then' ... we are sitting all together!

Phewwww! A marathon of sitting! Made it for about an hour and a half until I gracefully gassho'd out. I realize this isn't a competition and we aren't trying to "get anywhere" so I will take my leave with non-judgement and non-attachment :)

I hope to "build up" my zazen stamina and sit the entire four hours soon :D

Made it for Metta and the last sit this morning, I will go back and watch the rest after work, Thank you Jundo, and everyone.
P.S. after quite a break I am happy to say I have got back to my Zafu again, and thanks to my wife who is supporting me and has been sitting with me for the last week. :) and all of you of course.

Thanks for another wonderful Zazenkai. Jundo I especially liked the koan about the "Ass and the Well"!!! How often I've felt like an Ass staring down into a well only seeing my own reflection.

In college I was active in drama and when we performed The Merchant of Venice, I played the Prince of Aragon, one Bianca's suitors. At the end of my unsuccessful wooing when I opened the gilded casket I found a mirror. Looking into the mirror, the line I spoke was:

With one fools head I came to woo,
And now I go away with two.

Even then, if I had listened...a Zen Koan in Shakespeare.

Couldn't download the recording but I followed the "procedure " as best as I could. I fretted over "4 hours" not being possible then simply took what time gave me and sat an hour this morning, Tonight maybe I can sit again.
Accepting that I can only do my best,
gassho,
