Hi,

We are now starting the new book in our Treeleaf Book Club ... Master Dogen's Shobogenzo-Zuimonki ....

Please find some additional information, and a few tips on reading it, here:

READING SCHEDULE FOR SHOBOGENZO-ZUIMONKI (and reading tips)

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1779&p=25059#p25059 (http://http://www.treeleaf.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1779&p=25059#p25059)

Also note that this is A BIT OF AN EXPERIMENT! The "experiment" I would like to try is to see if we can apply these short talks, meant mostly for Japanese monks in a monastery, samurai and others in the 13th century, to our lives in the 21st century, out in the world. As I said, nothing to lose (or, as Dogen might say, "no loss no gain!" :D )

Just FYI, I ordered the one from the Monastery Store awhile ago, and the book they sent does not actually look like the one they picture on their site. The book I received looks like this:

It doesn't say "A Primer of Soto Zen" on it. Is this the right version?

Also, I don't have access to the forum either. Looking forward to discussing this book though!

Hi Shinkai,

I think it is the same. See if the introduction is the same as what I posted in the PDF file please, or if some of the online sections match.

Hi,

From what I can tell, the edition from the Monastery Store (2004) matches what's on the Soto School website. For example, the version Jundo's using has a short section (#4) at the end of the introduction that isn't in the other two. So, I'd guess he has an earlier printing (1988, 1995, 1998) and that section was eliminated for the 2004 edition and what's on the website.

Only place I could find the book right now was Borders online and they are backordered so would be 2-4 weeks before it shipped. so I will have to skip this one. But may try to buy the book to read on my own later.

Is there a place where it is announced beforehand what the next book is so i can try to get my hands on a copy early?
Probably most of this type of literature i'd have to special order because of where I live ( though if you want every possible book written on christianity that sells you can go to any bookstore here).
