Hello all,

I was just wondering what are (some of) everyones favorite quotes...

here are my 2 favorites:

"All the joy the world contains
Has come through wishing happiness for others.
All the misery the world contains
Has come through wanting pleasure for oneself"
-Shantideva, from The Way of the Bohisattva

"UNLESS someone like you
cares a whole awful lot,
nothing is going to get better.
It's not."
-Dr. Seuss, from The Lorax

A Zen-related quote I recently reread, from Suzuki Roshi's Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind:

"So in love there should be hate, or non-attachment. And in hate there should be love, or acceptance. Love and hate are one thing." from the Attachment, Non-Attachment chapter

That one hit me hard when I read it again a few weeks ago. I'm a Suzuki fan, though.

The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition
--Dr Carl Sagan

A human being is part of a whole called by us "Universe", a part limited in space and time. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separate from the rest - a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison to us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.
--Albert Einstein

A clever saying proves nothing

--Voltaire

I believe this one is attributed to Suzuki Roshi --

There is no such thing as an elightened being, only enlightened action.

Hi Folks!

"I've constructed dozens of Buddhist temples, supported hundreds of monks and nuns, and sponsored countless religious ceremonies," the proud emperor informed Daruma. "How great is my merit?"

"No merit at all," Daruma replied bluntly.

"Tell me then," the emperor wanted to know, "What is the first principle of Buddhism?"

"Vast emptiness, nothing holy!" Daruma shot back.

On a bit of a Hayden kick lately. Hope song quotes are ok:

Miles away;
Just up ahead;
It doesn't matter what;
any of us, is looking for;
we'll never find it because;
It's not even there

When we wish to teach and enlighten all things by ourselves, we are deluded; when all things teach and enlighten us, we are enlightened.
