The Talk today is on:
The VERSE OF ATONEMENT:
All harmful acts, words and thoughts, ever committed by me since of old,
On account of beginningless greed, anger and ignorance,
Born of my body, mouth and mind,
Now I atone for them all
The FOUR VOWS:
To save all sentient beings, though beings numberless
To transform all delusions, though delusions inexhaustible
To perceive Reality, though Reality is boundless
To attain the Enlightened Way, a Way non-attainable

Thank you Jundo, Sekishi, and all for another wonderful Zazenkai! It's amazing how we can all be scattered across the globe, yet there is a very palpable group energy that can be felt while practicing. I am so grateful for this opportunity to practice with you all. gassho2

A little bit of research showed me the sangha has discussed Okumura's take on the Bodhisattva vows a while back. We just read that chapter at Bird Haven. A very timely talk for me; thank you Jundo, Sekishi and all. _()_

Thank you for mentioning that, Shonin. I went to those threads and found the discussion most interesting even though I have not yet read that book. It just moved up on my reading list, just behind that Dancing Zen thing I keep hearing about. [claps]

I am sorry for using more than 3 sentences.
Good intentions, inattention and accepting the result.
Due to the time difference between Japan and UK, I have been taking part in monthly Zazenkai through the recordings. This weekend I thought I'd try joining live to see if it felt different. But when I signed into zoom, no-one was there. Something had gone terribly wrong.
On more careful examination of the instructions, I found that I was exactly 24 hours late. I felt upset. Why was I upset? Why had I failed? How had I got it so wrong? Why was I so stupid?
So, I am not an uneducated ruffian, but I have always used "12 noon" and "12 midnight". For almost 60 years. Now I realise that 12am is midnight, I'll try to join next month. Just a mistake. Not the end of the world after all. I must try to be a little more careful when reading instructions though.
Being wide awake in the hours of darkness, I switched to the recording and did my little Zazenkai from midnight until 4 am on Sunday. Late for the party, but I found that I can do Zazen at any time.
Thank you to everyone who made it to the live session, without you, the recorded version would not have been so great.

Sekishi - when you said "there is a puppy playing with a toy in here" I thought that's pretty much my mind! hahahahahah
"Little" Leon is going to college! Time passes swiftly! Good luck Leon!
That was a beautiful talk; your talks are always a blend of dharma but bringing that now very practically without any nonsense, and that helps make this practice alive for me today, so thank you Jundo.
I wanted to say something briefly - when I post I know I am too wordy but also I know I can be provocative, and that is not my intent. I get carried away, and I will make a better effort to post more carefully; I really enjoy practicing here with you all.
Thank you everyone! gassho2

Sat with the recording.
Thanks everyone for sitting, we couldn't do it without you!
Jundo: the paradox you're thinking of is Zeno's Paradox. Along with the Sorites (heap) Paradox and the Ship Of Theseus, I think they are excellent ways of pointing out the limits of logic and philosophy in answering semantic questions.

Kenny

Yes, Zeno's Paradox ...
... which, in overly simplified terms, states (I believe) that an object going halfway to its destination, then halfway again, then halfway again, etc. etc. ...
... never quite gets there though it keep moving. :)
