Note from Jundo: Kyonin agreed to take this on. Thank you Kyonin!

Hi,

I am looking for someone with some artistic talent to whip up maybe 24(?) sketch cartoons to accompany the chapters of a book I just started writing. The book with have short, humorous chapters introducing Zazen, so the sketches should be light and maybe humorous too. Probably they will be minimalist design, black and white. There may or not be worded punchlines depending whether the artist is good with that kind of writing and coming up with the joke. I have an image in my head of something like this ...

I am fine with artwork even less detailed than the above, like ...

Maybe the Sangha can offer some small compensation to cover someone's time and chalk expenses.

Please post here or PM/email me (jundotreeleaf@gmail.com). Thank you.

Jundo,

Is it possible that this book may be appropriate for teens? :)

This sounds like a fun project. If I had the talent, I would certainly volunteer.

Hi Jundo,

I do illustrations from time to time. Here are some samples of my work.

For this project I'd need a little time to develop a style that suits the text, and then a little time to work on the proper art for the book. But if you want I can do it. I will be an honor :)

Let me know if you're interested.

Gassho,

Kyonin’s second example, for the book “What do you see?” Looks like a good line style, even a simplified version of that.
A consistent style and look is a good idea ... a simple line expression..

I can paint realism, but am no cartoonist. I have tried it... and am not so good. It must be challenging to create cartoons daily like many professionals have to do, year after year. So much has to be said in the character of a few lines.

It sounds like a wonderful idea for the book, Jundo.

I might be able to help if someone can't do all of them, although I can see that you are probably going to be looking for a consistent style...

Thank you to the folks that volunteered. I have to say that, as soon as I saw Kyonin's pictures, they just made me smile ... and I did not even know what they are about yet. So, after talking to Kyonin, he is going to take it on. gassho1

As to other folks, thank you so much for your community spirit. We have some very talented folks in this Sangha.
