Dear Treeleaf community
If you haven't seen the news, Philippines is in bad shape due to the monsoon and flood. Two million people are losing their homes, have no food or clean water.
Philippines government is asking for international help.
I'm sure in each of our countries there will be some sort of international non profit aid fund or maybe International Red Cross.
Please lets help them however we can.

I will also do metta tonight for the suffering and I will check to see if I can find a good charity. The red cross is usually good with this stuff.

Same here, although to be fair I have been avoiding the news because of the Olympics...much metta to all those suffering or ill in health.

Thank you for this.
I might suggest donations to some of the reputable and responsible "A rated" international aid societies who are always on the scene at times like this. Here is one example ...

I have looked for coverage of this disaster in the press...not much doing. It's there, but you have to dig past all the "Is Brangelina getting married this weekend?" kind of sutff first. And then very casual references to how many have died and how many are suffering. One line mentioning that even worse weather is on the horizon. Have we become this complacent about suffering and so enamored of wealth? Yikes!

Yes, Dosho.
We always give more relevance to crap news than to humanitarian emergencies.
You have to skim a lot of irrelevancies to get to the things that matters.
What makes feel terrible is how on earth media oversees human needs in order to sell ads.
Beautiful Twilight movies actors = sales.
Suffering Philippine people = inconvenient reality.
Sad, but true.

Kyonin thank you for starting this thread, and thank you everyone for your offerings of metta. I am fortunate enough to live in a place protected somewhat from typhoons - sadly, that's not the case for my countrymen up north.

Good point Jundo. Might I also suggest the Philippine Red Cross http://www.redcross.org.ph/donate and the International Committee of the Red Cross? http://www.icrc.org/eng/index.jsp
