Oh wow, six days I've neglected to post on here. Still, 11/0/365, shikantaza twice a day as usual, but now with a slight flu thing.
13/0/365
14/14/0/365
Added another number in there to keep track of consecutive days of sitting, so
Total # sat / # sat in a row without missing / # missed / # goal
15/1/365 - Caught up. Great 20 m sit today. I was surprised when the ending bell rang, seemed to go by quickly!
16/16/0/365

Sat the zazenkai yesterday, sat just 5 minutes today...but I know that if it hadn't been for your challenge Jigetsu, I would not have sat at all today. I was tired, headache, nasty sunburn, excuse #4, excuse #5, etc., etc. 5 minutes? Can I do that?
Yes, of course I can...thank you all.
Gassho,
Dosho
I just looked back and realized I posted "10/365" twice on consecutive days and then 12/365 two days later. So, I'm not sure how many days I've done and instead of spending any time figuring that out, I'm going to go sit.
Gassho,
Dosho
Ya know ...
really ... each and every sitting is also and always 1/1. Always will be too, no matter how many.
So, let's all not be too much into counting and keeping score even as the days pass.
Gassho, Jundo
Thanks Jundo. I purposely avoided this challenge because I know my personality all too well. Glad to see all who are sitting but I know my goal-oriented mind and it would have been a hang-up for me...maybe I should sit with that. :roll:Originally Posted by Jundo

I agree with Dokan I'd probably be the same. I'd be sitting for the challenge rather than sitting just for sitting, I had a similar issue when I starting using insight timer.Originally Posted by Dokan

I have begun to feel this way as the days have passed even though it has helped me get to the cushion during a tough time, but I did want to offer support to those sitting. However, you are quite right, there is really no reason to keep score and unintentionally cling to those numbers.Originally Posted by Jundo

I like it Jundo. Easier to keep track when it's always 1/1.

My pattern seems to be around every other day...
9/11/365 as of 9 May 2012
I think I'm backing out of the challenge for this reason. Dosho, in the same way you wanted to offer support, so did/do I. But I'm not really posting here anyway, and it's beginning to seem strange that my zazen is a number. So anyway, I'm gone, but wish everyone else a lovely practice.Originally Posted by Dosho

Count me in. For the next year I undertake to sit zazen for at least 10 minutes each day.
