WELCOME HOYU ZAZEN ... and Tea Ceremony ...

Hoyu offers a "hello" to everyone from Treeleaf Tsukuba ... then we sat a brief 30 minutes of Zazen, and a little Kinhin. Shokai Richard joined us in the middle. Please sit with us if you have a chance.

We will also had a Tea Ceremony conducted by Hoyu Sensei, which you may still join in at any time ...
    Hiyo writes about that ...

For those who are able to sit in on the tea ceremony please feel free to participate at home. If everyone can collect ahead of time (see the screen below) ....
    1) a sweet to eat
    2) a cup of your favorite tea. Heck, feel free to make it a cup of java if tea isn't your thing!(though I still wish for you at least consider giving tea a try )

Just have them ready and we will instruct you when to eat and drink. Nothing to complicated. Just relax and enjoy

    Gassho,
    Hoyu
And, of course, don't forget our weekly Zazenkai tomorrow!

    http://www.treeleaf.org/forums/showt...i-WITH-HOYU%21

... and our SPECIAL CEREMONY "OFFICIALLY" MARKING THE OPENING OF OUR NEW TREELEAF FORUM AND WEBPAGE (even though it has actually been up and running for a few weeks) and traditional-not-so-traditional MEMORIAL SERVICE TO RETIRE OUR OLD COMPUTER HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE. The ceremony will begin (one hour later than originally planned) ...

... from 10pm Japan time Saturday night (that is New York 9am, Los Angeles 6am (Saturday morning), London 2pm and Paris 2pm (Saturday afternoon)

I apologize for the change, due to Hoyu attending Aikido with my wife Mina.

I will have Google+ links up for each shortly before our beginning time. Please check back.

    Welcome Hoyu John & Family!

    Fantastic demonstration.

Sadly, I couldn't make it to the live ceremony

It would be great to learn chado.

Thank you Hoyu, for my first tea ceremony. It was lovely, although I didn't really need that gi-normous homemade cupcake I had as my sweet!
I was happy to meet your smiling wife, Hoyu, and to see Mina & Sada again, Jundo.
Thank you all for this pleasure.

Thank you all for your kind words
I'm happy that we were all able to share in a bowl of virtual tea together

Here is a little info on the ceremony which was conducted.
It is 1 of 4 Chabako(tea box) procedures created by Gengensai, the 11th iemoto(head of the household for our lineage of tea). Each one of those 4 corresponds to a particular season(winter, spring, summer, and fall). The one I did for everyone is named Unohana(deutzia/blossom) and performed during the summer months.

    Thank you Jundo and Hoyu;
Sorry I missed the live Tea Ceremony. It's been years since I've partaken in one. It is great to have the opportunity to view this recording.

Thank you for the Tea ceremony, Hoyu! It was very interesting. I want to try to do this in my home.

That was an astonishing ceremony, Hoyu!

Now drinking tea will never be the same for me

Thanks a lot, Jundo, for pointing me to this thread!
I have just finished watching the Tea Ceremony (after sitting with the Zazen/Kinhin recording from the first post).
    Three words: fascinating, impressive, beautiful!

This was my first Japanese Tea Ceremony. The differences to the Chinese Tea Ceremony (I am still a beginner with only half a year of experience) are huge!

    Deep bows,

Perhaps, like the many flavors of Chinese Chan or Japanese Zen or Buddhism in general ... sometimes very different yet precisely the same, always just the same but often quite different.

I am more a "coffee ceremony" fellow myself.

Hehe, I am a coffee junkie myself - it's great enjoying both brews.

You might laugh, but I have thought about inventing my own coffee/espresso/cappuccino ceremonies - just for kicks. You see, I drink this stuff at least 3 - 4 times a day, so this kind of begs for a practice...
There are no new sutras, so why not invent new ceremonies?

Thanks Timo and all for reviving this rerun; enjoyed the second viewing as much as the first.
As for coffee rituals, I'll pass; more than one cup a day and my kidneys give up

It seems that Latte Art could possibly be a way to bring a certain amount of ritual into the caffeinated beverage consumption. An espresso machine etc. might be out of the price range for many, but when making coffee... just make coffee?

I loved watching this, thank you so much Hoyu. I hope you still practice the tea ceremony, I started taking an interest in it in a general way a couple of years ago (pre Treeleaf) and would always be interested in learning more.

I was on hiatus from a number of passions for a time due to life’s circumstances. Pleased to say that I’ll also be back in the tea room soon

Here in Italy we take our coffee very seriously and I think this is a fabulous idea, I still use the time honoured method of making espresso, I'm thinking of renaming it The Way of the Moka But seriously, it is almost a rite in itself, everyone has their preferred methods and preferences.
