    Compassion has three faces

    Brooms, spoons, phones
    And behind
    Kannon s hands and eyes

Just being caught into the fires of life, getting through a very bumpy patch , I am reminded of the great kindness and endless freedom of Kanzeon very much alive in many of you guys as well as in the heart and action of simple people I meet on my way. And opening my eyes I see how compassion has three faces: wisdom, love and action. Without action you only find pity, without wisdom only clumsy and panicking attempts, without love a very dry manipulatipn of reality. These three faces cannot be planned or cultivated, they arise together as one at the same time. You cannot do it with your head or with your hands or heart only, you are compassion as the living Buddha sits with mind, body and bodhi.

If you dislike this teaching or think I am talking bullshit, aim the arrow at yourself, break your own heart and find the hidden boddhisatva in your own bag of skin!!!

Simple, and yet so powerful. How often we forget one of those three faces: wisdom, action and love when trying to do good.

How difficult is to take that bodhisatva out...

    Thank you so much Taigu.

    Taigu,

I am happy that you are doing well. I totally agree ... compassion is simple ... if compassion is not simple, then there is too much BS. I very much appreciate your insightful view on things. Be well.

    Re: Compassion has three faces

Compassion like a tiger would leap
    A subtle and sudden bloom
    A rash
    A slow rush
    Kannon s action is fueled
    By the wounds and scars
    Yours
    Theirs
    everybody's

Kannon gives a tongue to sky and sentient beings
She-he gives arms to the invisible
Ears to songs and words themselves
    Kannon appears unoticed
    Ordinary miracles
    Sweat, laughs, grease,
Trafic, busy buses, lights and shadows
Kannon is sometimes an old mad woman
sometimes wrapped in the shape of a child
    in a doctor, a caretaker, a policeman, a nobody
Kannon is flesh and blood of compassion

when you give this self to zazen
    it becomes you
    but it comes unoticed
    you cannot see it
    cannot hear it
    can't even touch it
    only once it's gone
    only then

Such a wonderful description of how nirvana lives within dukka, where we so least expect it.
