Thank you all for attending. We will have a post of the ceremony soon. Right now, taking Dokan out for a bit of a tour.

Yes, the robes are, of course, dear Taigu's handiwork ... a 7 panel robe for more formal times. Rags made into the universe, a thing of beauty.

    Hi all,

The name of such a robe is funzoe, clothing of shity rags, made of rags ( here furoshiki, cloth for wrapping in Japan). This robe is generally for just sitting, begging ang special occasions ( ceremonies, rituals). In our Soto sangha you have to receive a special authorisation to sew it and wear it. The basic reason is that we don t really want to end up with a rainbow like fashion show and competion between sitters, we want to keep it low key with muted colours, darkish hues. I made this okesa for the winter retreat in Belgium and, talking about fashion, it suits Jundo better than the stupid old fool. I am gathering old scraps and kimono fabric to make another one which I might keep( might... Because it is an old habit of mine to give okesa away, jundo already has one rakusu and two kesa that i have sewn).

PS : if you have old beautiful japanese fabric, donations are accepted, i will turn them into nyohoe robes.R

Working on it now...Jundo had me scaling the 120 metre (~400 ft) Amida Butsu statue nearby and singing Filipino karaoke. Well, by scaling, I mean taking an elevator up and by singing Filipino karaoke I really mean it...actually we did a duet!

Will send to Jundo in a few min and he should be posting hopefully soon afterwards.

    Gassho,

    Dokan

For those of us who are new and not as knowledgeable about our tradition, could someone please say what "title" they now hold and what their new dharma names are in English?
