Re: SIT-A-LONG with Taigu: Fukanzazengi 1

    Taigu-oso;

I am truly grateful for your embarking on this project to translate the Fukanzazengi and very much look forward to your talks on it. While sitting with the zazen group at Shokoji in Hiroshima I frequently had the opportunity to experience the chanting of the Fukanzazengi ( in Japanese Of course) and had an english Soto-shu translation which essentially was my sole explanation of what (we) were doing every time we sat together. In essence, it was my introduction to Dogen; a relationship i expect will continue until and perhaps beyond, my time in this visible life.

    once again, thank you _/_

btw, the kakijiku on the wall behind your left ear seems to me to be an awesome one brush stroke representation of Fuji-san; is it one of your talented attempts ??

    Hi Shokai,

thank you for your kind words, Yes, Fukanzazengi is central to our practice.

The Fujusan? You are tooooooooooo kind...It is the very beautiful brushwork of one of the abbots of Sojiji, I have bought it two weeks ago in Kyoto.

I look forward to this chewing.
I am reading Realizing Genjokoan and the first three lines have really shown me a bit of this chewing and swimming in and around you mention.
I am grateful that you are able to share with us. Thank you.

Thank-you Teacher. I look forward to exploring the Fukanzazenji.
There are always pearls in your talks, maybe more than you realize.
I am silent on the board, but I am here. The work that you and Jundo do keeps me sitting.

    Thank-you, and a deep bow. m

Thank you for sharing this work with us, Taigu Sensei.

I'll be looking forward for the videos.

I have a question. Will this version of Fukanzazengi be right for me to follow allong?

    Hi Chocobuda,

yes, it is a very good translation.

I strongly recommand the work of my teacher, Mike Chodo Cross. Mike did the donkey work on the Nishijima translation of the shobogenzo and his knowledge and understanding of Dogen is beyond anything you can imagine. Here it is with Dogen kanji explained one at a time and a copy of the original:

    Hi Lisa.

I believe those are the ones, and I fixed the links above, for this rather old yet Timeless thread. A good one.
