    Hi all,

I want everybody to use this thread as from now.
Please Jinyu feel free to join at anytime when-if you feel better.
For now we have to pretend Jinyu won't be with us ( we wish he would) but because we haven't heard of him, we need to move on.

    Therefore:

Bring oryoki if you have one ( we will do the simple procedure we did for Rohatsu)
Bring everything to keep you warm in and out of sitting
extra blankets, zafuton and zafu please! (better to have plenty than to lack a few)
we need a small buddha statue, two candle holders and 4 white candles, a nice flower for the altar too (orchid)
we also need a fee incense bowls for two extra altars, Jizo and Kannon
If you have a han , wood struck to let people know about zazen, please bring it.
If you have an hand bell for waking people, bring it.
Bring mokugyo and drum if you can ( i cannot if i travel by train )
i need an old razor with a blade for Tokudo and Jukai
we need clappers in wood for evenings and oryoki
the food will be simple, no fuss.
I don't know about the money situation...We ll see :?
Everybody coming should NOW post here and say when there are coming and get in touch with Hans for lifts or plan how to get there....
Anybody ales can help with lifts from station or airport to abbey?
I will give you soon my mobile number ( I have to ressurect an old international phone of mine)

my number and address in France will be as from Tuesday next week:
    tel: 03 27 77 95 32
    : Monsieur et Madame BRUNELET

    - Zafu/Zabuton
    - Sleeping bag
    - Warm clothes
    - Fake orchid
    - Small mokugyo
    - Straight Razor

    - Sewing stuffs (needles, thread, material)
    - Travel Iron (my new best friend)
    - Flashlight (late night trips to the loo)

Please let me know if there is anything else I can bring. (Incense maybe?)

    Re: NEW THREAD WINTER RETREAT

I come, despite stuff for myself (bench, zabuton, sleeping bag, clothes etc etc etc) I can bring

    - the candles (standard white candles, about 2 cm diameter), 4 are sufficient ? But no candle holders
    - incense
    - I have no original wooden clappers but I can bring a good replacement with almost same sound, please let me know
    - I can bring a tiny buddhy (4 cm) if size doesnt matter

I come via train and should be right in the abbey at 27th, about 3 pm. I need to catch my train on 30th, so I leave this day 3:30 pm latest

    Re: NEW THREAD WINTER RETREAT

    Hello friends

I'll be arriving to Brussels the 27th at 8:55 am. Plenty of time for logistics .
I'll bring zafu, sleeping bag and material for the rakusu. I have a Buddha statue, not very impressive, one of those industrial things made with epoxy. Let me know if it's needed.

A question for Taigu: Should I bring the whole fabric so we'll cut it there, or do I better bring the pieces already cut?

Looking forward to see you all.

So I have something similar to this (no steam though ). If steam is critical I can look to see what I can find. I bought it for the portability but ended up using my industrial iron because I missed the steam function.

And this is similar to the straight razor I was planning on bringing:

I wish you all the best ...

For all the chaos and confusion in organizing this first Retreat "on site", I believe it will be all the more a wondrous sitting. It is just like this crazy life, stillness right at/as the heart of chaos!

Thank you Jundo; it is going to feel like sitting in a small ermitage with just a few dedicated Dharma brothers and sisters. Sure; great time.

By the way, could anybody make a copy of the Treeleaf sutra book for me ( I have forgotten it  ) and put it in a folder so pages can be easily turned and red?

    Re: NEW THREAD WINTER RETREAT

    Taigu, Mongen, everyone...

I intent to participate to the retreat !
I've been quite sick, I stopped working for a few days... I have huge migraines due to a physical problem a always had, to stress (because of the problems I'm fighting against in my daily life) and probably culpability of not being a good organizer for this retreat, and a worse member of this Sangha.

Thanks to Taigu and Mongen for the fantastic work they are doing, I'm very sorry I spent a lot of their time in gibberish talk...

But I can assure that :
The food, according to the menu, will be bought tomorrow evening and Saturday morning.
No one outside Treeleaf showed up to participate to the retreat... despite the flyers I sent twice to 10 or 12 Sanghas around. Some shared that big retreats will be held by AZI and Sanbokyodan Sanghas (the two largest here) or that they intent to stay with their family...
Thus will be just people participating on this thread.

We will also have two irons and two tables for ironing.
I also will bring much needles and all the threads I can find.

I can also still pick Taigu in Northern France if fits with his program...

    gassho,
    Jinyu

Thanks Soen and yes me too. Almost all packed. Been quite a challenge to fit some of these bulkier items but I think I'm set. My flight leaves tomorrow night and arrives in Belgium about 3pm on the 26th.

Everyone should have my number so feel free to text or call when you get in if you want to meet up.

    Hi Soen,

I get into Brussels on the 26th...so anytime on the 27th is ok. Of course I'm carrying a bunch of luggage with me so maybe something on the 1km between the Kortenberg station and the Abbey? I was checking the routes on Google Maps and noticed what seemed to be two restaurants on that route, Rembrandt Cafe and La Strada Restaurant:

    Green A = Kortenberg Station
    Red A = Restaurants
    Green B = Abbey

Btw, the route from Central Station to the Hotel is:

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source= ... 7iEAw&pw=2

Of course I'll be with you at that point and hopefully already stayed there on the 26th, so we can trek there together.

Just give me a call or SMS when you get to town. I think my plan however will be to take the train up from the city around 11. This should put me in Kortenberg about 12 and then maybe grab a bite to eat before heading to the Abbey about 1.

    Gassho,

    s

PS - Also one other note...there is a grocery store nearby called Carrefour GB. (http://g.co/maps/xumkv) Just in case you forget anything (I almost forgot to pack a towel...so used to staying at hotels when travelling for business!)

    Re: NEW THREAD WINTER RETREAT

    Hi everyone,

I'm purchasing things I couldn't find last week in order for Rimon to show us his culinary talents!

I'll be picking up Taigu in Northern France tomorrow morning, we should be back at the retreat early (around 12h - 13h). As we will get there quite early it will be possible to prepare the zendo, everyoe will have time to put himself at ease in the rooms, time also for Rimon to check the food and eventually to buy one last thing at the supermarket nearby.
So, I won't be able to pick people at the station as I wanted but I think everyone knows how to get there!

Just in case my phone number is: 0032/487016749. If you have any problem with planes or trains don't hesitate!

Have a very nice day everyone!

A warm thought for those coming AND for the guys sitting from afar!

    deep gassho,
    Jinyu
ps: Yes, we will have two irons and boards.

    Hi All,

Though I'm not attending this year, I have been keeping up with all the posts on this retreat. It's great to see what you all, as a community, have worked hard to put together. Wishing everyone in attendance a safe trip and peaceful retreat!
Like Undo, I'm hoping to sit part of this retreat through any recordings which may later be available.

    Re: NEW THREAD WINTER RETREAT

    Thank you John,

The basic principle for anybody is to move one s ar.. and get to the retreat.
Although space and time can be dropped, a bunch of guys are making use of space and time to make this retreat real. They deserve my greatest respect.

We will do our best, thanks to Shawn, to record bits and pieces.
Feel free to join and sit wherever you are.
