Thank you for this teaching Taigu Sensei. Two lines in the poem of the old gnarled plum tree stick out for me. They are about the blossoms being "not proud of purity, not proud of fragrance." it reminded me of the essence of a poem I had once written:
Growing in the fields
What splendor nature yields
Flowers who know themselves not by name
Bloom their beauty just the same
What I was getting at with this poem was regardless how we classify things by naming them then claiming proudly to know them, they exist on their own. The dandelion doesn't know it's call a dandelion(or sometimes just a lowly weed. Ouch!). Or that it is below a rose in the minds of men. In spite of what we call it or how we rank it, it is going to still be and do what it does.
I can see a similar idea expressed with the plum blossoms.
