SIT-A-LONG with Taigu: Baike, Plum blossoms

Yes, baby, can you divide the reality of one thing happening? Can you cut the sound in half? More than that, with a single blossom, all blossoms. The whole reality is captured in a single unfolding. From star to bin, all is said and expressed. Check this.

    Beautiful, beautiful teaching.

We don't have plum flowers here, but every morning when I go out to run, I notice how flowers are starting to bloom on this side of the planet. Yes, there is beauty even among the worst place in your life.

    Thank you, thank you, Taigu.

Thank you, Taigu. I really enjoyed this teaching.

Around here, by the way, the white magnolia is the first thing to pop in spring:

    Hmmm . . . to think of a single opening blossom as Shakyamuni Buddha . . .

The trees are still bare here, but they blossom none the less.

    Gassho,
    Taylor (Myoken)

P.s. When you speak about Dogen's younger days, when "The Dharma was for everyone", I believe, can you clarify? Not in the historical sense, reading Shobogenzo and bits of Eihei Koroku, you can taste the age in Dogen, rom a fierce raging fire to glowing, steady embers I think, but I'm curious about what you taste. Yes Myoken, I can try to say something about what appears to be from... this shore.
When Dogen came back from China, he really had a hard time. Kyoto was not very welcoming. He spend a lot of time in a ermitage before he created Koshoji. In these early years, he seemed to focus on teaching all sorts of people, lay, priests, aristocrats...regardless of their origin, regardless of their actual social life.

There seem to be a turning point, where Dogen shoots up North, and creates his ideal setting for priests training. Eiheiji. Before, Shobogenzo and jazzy lectures. After, Eiheiroku, teisho after teisho, ascending the seat and preaching the closest disciples.

    Some people said: two Dogen.

    Not as obvious as this.

Life is tricky. It takes you down and up and up and down.

What Dogen taught in Eiheiji was not much different from what he taught before. The people he talked to were basically priests. Before, anybody, really.

Sanshodoei, his poetry written in the Fukui Mountain of Eheiji is a very very beautiful book. The guy is complex. You and me are complicated people. aren't we?

I just prefer Dogen's voice before he headed North. That's it. But that is just me. See and hear for yourself.

    Take care

When I did bow in front of Dogen's grave ( and my Japanese wife was sooooooooooooooo upset,) who was I bowing to? Dogen 1, 2, 3, 4, 699999999999999999999?

Taigu again (or is he ???)

Kind of, Risho, it is the rakusu I recieved for transmission. A bit flowery, extravagant but real and simple too.
