    Dumbest excuses

Today I woke up in a lazy mood.

I normally wake up at 4:40 am, make some coffee, wake up and begin writing or reading. Then at 6 AM I meditate... but today I found myself giving the dumbest excuses for not doing my zazen.

"Nah, I won't meditate because I have a lot of work. I'd better focus on my projects."

    A minute later:

"Ah... my knee hurts from yesterday's run. I think I won't sit today."

    A minute later:

"I think it's cold today. Not a good day for zazen"

A minute later I exploded in laughter because I realized all the crap my mind puts between me and zazen.

So I meditated and it was fantastic as usual.

What are your dumbest and more memorable excuses?

    Re: Dumbest excuses

ah, my favorite one was- "nah, I don't want to meditate, the cat is just gonna meow and disturb me anyway."
twenty minutes later of me just mindlessly surfing facebook (and no meowing of cat) I decided to get on the damn pillow. Five minutes in, the cat meows... =P

another was- "why mediate I'm already enlightened just as I am..."

But I think the one I use the most(too often) "I don't wanna sit zazen, I rather sleep." ops:

Isn't it amazing how the mind will try anything to keep us off the pillow....ahhh

    thanks for the post

Being reminded of the many gates between me and the cushion is an excellent teaching. Thank you Choco and Seiryu! Gassho, Shogen

My cat used to sit right in front of my zafu and just stare at me while I sat.

I thought about using her for a zafu and then realized what a problem this would be seeing as how I never had her declawed.

Then I realized something. It seemed that everytime I would slip off into a doze she would say, "MEOW." I then realized my cat was enlightened. She wasn't saying "MEOW," she was saying, "MU!" Dang feline was trying to help me wake up.

    Cats are buddha too.

    That's awesome!

I bow to the wisdom of your cat...
my cat meows at me because it is Mara coming to attack me!

    Maybe we should trade...

The Treeleaf of no leaf- Case one: The Enlightened Cat.

    Main Case:
The great practitioner Onshin upon hearing a group of simple zen students discussing reason for not practicing and whether or not the feline was a help or a distraction to practice; raises up and states in a sincere tone; “Does the cat have Buddha nature?”
Upon after hearing, the great practitioner Ghop simple replied, “Bark” then after a quick Gassho continued to mediate.

    Commentary:
    Bark, Meow
    Buddha or no Buddha
    Delusion Vs Enlightenment
    Ha! Where do you stand?
If you can see through the cyber system you will meet this enlightened Feline face-to-face and receive the authentic transmission of Buddha-to Buddha
