its official: mebeam limited to 5 minute solo

i just received this reply from willem, moderator for mebeam forum:

"I got a very clear answer now from Ashod!
Ashod did intentionally implement the 5 minutes room close down, when
there is no one else in a room. Because sometimes, people are at a netcafe
or even at home and just goto a room and forget to close the browser page
and the room can that way run for days... and that will cost lots of money
for the used servers. So, it saves that way lots of datatraffic and money.
The other thing he implemented is the auto refresh room after 20 min's:
    It will that way:
    (1) speed up connections, when there are long delays in a room.
    (2) if room is full and someone is waiting to enter room , it gives
everyone a chance to use that particular room.
I've added this info in short form on the Mebeam help page too."

well, i was beginning to think i was losing it(having forgotten that i lost it a long time ago) -- i'll explain our unique usage of mebeam, but i'm sure they're not going to change it back -- i get the impression that this was a recent change, and that would explain why some of us have seen a change in our ability to use mebeam -- with this new info, however, we can see that it is not because of any changes we may have made to our computers

thanks again, charles and jundo, for figuring this out

Thanks for the research and info, Bob.

I'm not sure if it helps, but you can log into the same room more than once. I just got up to five
There is a delay between each of yourselves (sp) and is a bit shroomie  .
I didn't try 5 minutes so not sure if it works in stopping the close down or not.

    er.. that's all ops:

It stopped the room from closing down on me with 2 if myself in the room.

    So much for dualism!

    So which rang the gong?

    I have to try that.

Hmm, that's an unfortunate but understandable change (from their point of view).

I have a computer than runs 24/7 I could have a "Treeleaf bot" in the Zendo that sits in the room to keep it open. I'd have to do some tweaks to make it reconnect, if it's even possible.

as plankton and damian point out above, you don't even need the 2 computer setup which i used, you just open a second page, which is what i did this morning -- it worked ok, but probably slowed things down a bit on my "dinky machine" -- but no biggy

anyway, i'm in the process of moving over to linux, so all hell will probably break out then -- although i was pleased to see that fluxbuntu recognized my wireless card, and after downloading the correct flash player, let me into the zen hall -- still having a problem with it playing jundo on ustream, but this is a laptop with 130mb ram that is dual-booted to both win2k and fluxbuntu, so that is probably pushing the limits -- its just a test of fluxbuntu, if it passes, i'll put it on the 32mb older thinkpad, but without any windows

    Hi Skye,

Maybe we should not do that, as it is kind of eating up their bandwidth (even if the system will allow 24 hours operation). The "two window" work around sounds adequate for now ... and rather poetic!

Zen Riddle: How many of "you" will be sitting if you are sitting with you?

    Zen Answer: NONE!

The "bot" shouldn't use any bandwidth if it has no audio and a static image, but it may not be possible to get it working anyway.
