    Buddhist themed books for kids

    Hi all,

I noticed that there were several comments in other threads about explaining Buddhist principles to kids. I am a childrens librarian and here are a few of my favorites:

Zen Shorts and Stone Soup both by Jon Muth

Basho and the River Stones by Tim Myers

    Selma by Jutta Bauer

    Samsara Dog by Helen Manos

I'd love to hear about other Buddhist themed childrens books that you've liked.

    Gassho,

    Linda

I recommend the Nishijima-Cross translation of Master Dogen's Shobogenzo.

It is the only thing I read to little Leon every night at bedtime.

    Gassho, Jundo

    (just kidding)

Actually, I find that almost any book can be a "Buddhist" book. Buddhist parents are just like all parents, trying to pass on good moral lessons to our kids. Most kids books seem to be on themes perfectly compatible with Buddhism.

Haven't read it, but this book caught my attention when it was mentioned in either Tricycle or the Shambhala Sun. Not a "Buddhist" book per se, but rather a book about helping gently introduce kids to topics relevant to Buddhism: death and impermanence.
