    Hi Will,

In Chinese that's Damo Chi-kung. Supposedly introduced to China from India by Bodaidaruma (Bodhidharma), they are exercises based upon the vajramushti health exercises and combat sequences (nata in pali and kata in Japanese).

So the story goes, Bodaidaruma was moved to pity when he saw how the monks in China were in bad health, so he taught them a complete nata (a kata or "set" of Vajramushti) along with two whole pratima (combat sequences of Vajramushti). It is from these exercises that Chinese Chuan fa is derived.
