    O-Jutsu, Nenjutsu....prayer beads

Was looking for guidance, thoughts on the use of O-Jutsu (prayer beads), in Soto Zen, and particularly in our practice and Sangha at Treeleaf.

Although not used while "sitting", I have used them for sutra chanting, etc. I normally wear them on my left wrist as a constant reminder of my practice to me.

    Thoughts?

    Hi Frank,

We've had a few discussions about these in the past. Long story short, not really emphasized in our little corner of the world. But some people use them.

    Hi Frank,

Yes, whatever was said last time I guess, like here.

Read the various meanings given to the number 108. Really neat.

Thank you, Kaishin. Saved me a look for some of those threads (I did not realize there were that many). I hereby appoint you our Official Treeleaf Archivist! Congratulations.

I was joking yesterday that, after 10 years of this place, about 1/3 of my advice to people these days is "cut and paste"

    Gassho, Jundo

PS - What do we pay you as Official Treeleaf Archivist? Nothing as base as money, that is for sure ...

Wow! Speaking of archiving, I feel like I'm dusting the mothballs off myself when I see how young Bill Murray is in that movie...

Ah yes, wisest of all the Lama's. Hes got that going for him

I use mine to "count off" (not count) the number of times I "come back to myself" during a session. Apart from that, they look pretty and Ie got used to having them around

    Only 1/3 ???

As for the mala, I wear mine around the neck to work, sometimes openly, sometimes hidden, to remind me of the rakusu which obviously I don't wear for work.
