    "Sovereign"

This morning while doing some lawn work (time to turn and reseed the yard) I was thinking about Jundo's talk during this weekend's Zazenkai. In pointing to the person of no rank, he used the word "sovereign". The person of no rank is sovereign.

For me sovereignty is found in my "heart of hearts”. It is a raw heart that recognizes virtue in people, in teachers, and also in myself. It is sovereign because it does not depend on any external measure or authority. It is active when talking to my son about an issue of conscience, or something he is struggling with. It can also be clouded over with my cleverness and bullshit. I am wondering if or how this relates to realizing the person of no rank? I am also wondering what the term "sovereign" means to other people? Thanks

    Hello,

"In modern democracies the people's will is in theory sovereign."

    Sounds nice anyways.^^
