Yes, any photos I attach appear small but I've noticed others appear full size in threads. what's with that?

Ah, finally a question around here I can answer!

Okay, when you are replying and click the little "insert image" button, then go to "from URL", make sure you do not have checked "Retrieve remote file and reference locally".

I've been wanting a Buddha statue in my garden for several years, now. I like the gnome one! I have a perfect spot and everything, but where I live, they are very expensive, I'm not paying $130 for a garden (or house) statue!! I have several in my house but, due to the price, they are pretty small.

If I had a garden, I'd put a nice Buddharupa.

But I'm lucky I have my little guy here besides me at my desk

He also travels with me everywhere.

I have two that look very similar to yours. They sit on my bookshelf.

Just for our Buddhist art and iconography folks ... Kyonin's statue is a seated Amida Buddha. Shingen's statue seems to be Shakyamuni. One can tell primarily from the Mudra of the hands, which for Amida Buddha is somewhat different from the Zazen mudra.

Does it matter that it is Amida of the Pure Land schools, and not Shakyamuni (who would have his hands in the Hokkai Join Mudra like "us" in Zazen)?

Well, I don't think so. In fact, our Buddha Statue in the Zendo here is probably an Amida, although so chipped and pockmarked (one reason I chose it), it is almost impossible to tell.

The Gnome above, by the way, appears to be an Amida gnome, not to be confused with Zazen or TM gnomes ...

We have an Amida in the back yard . . . though you can't tell when the snow gets too deep.

We also have a meditating frog who takes indignities rather well.
