Looking for Retreat in UK / Europe ...

    Hi all,
I have a week 'home alone' without the kids from August 19 to 25. I'm looking for a Soto Zen retreat in the UK or Europe in that week. If anyone can recommend one, I'd appreciate it.

    Dear Myozan,

I am not sure about their current schedule, but I can personally recommend Zen River: http://www.zenrivertemple.org/

The resident Roshi couple come from a White Plum lineage but are officially Soto-Shu certified and have close ties to the Soto-Shu. Nobody will force you to engage in Koan work.

Eisenbuch in Bavaria comes highly recommended as well, although I have yet to get my bum over there: www.eisenbuch.de

    All the best and Gassho,

    Hi Myozan,

I guess it is dependent on whether you want to join a retreat that has been organised; visit a retreat centre; organise a retreat. I know of no reteats that have yet been organised around your dates but will let you know if I hear of any.As for the second there is aways Throssel Hole Monastery they have a sesshin which is running from the 13th -20th August which one could book for but I know is not your dates. See here:

    http://www.throssel.org.uk/calendar-date/2013-07

However, they welcome guests and if you chose to go there I would probably be able to go at the same time. There is the option of organising a retreat. There is a farm house in beautiful surrounding about a mile from where I am which I have arranged with the owner to use for retreats when one can be arranged - & it would be inexpensive, i.e. just board £20 per night. So if we could get around 5 others ( & I can get at least 2) you could possibly lead the retreat. Anyway worth thinking about.

    Hi Myozan,

Maybe the Dancing Mountains group which is affiliated with SFZC?

Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire. It's with Reb Anderson Tenshin Roshi.

Apologies, that retreat was for July and not August.

You're challenging my knowledge of British geography. I had to google that. You are far from everything.

    Hi.
Sorry to butt in on this chat

... thank you all for your helpful suggestions.

Looks like Zenriver might just suit my dates. If it turns out so, I'll post here ... in case anyone wants to come too.

Hebden Bridge with Reb looks great, Matt. Doubt I will be able to make it but good to know he comes to the UK.

I hope you find a retreat that suits, Myozan.

    Hi guys,
Be good to sit with you in France. I'll be in Kanshoji for 10 days from August 16th. I have it all booked. There's more information on the Sesshin on their website. It's a Soto-shu recognised training monastery, part of the AZI. Let me know if you plan to attend.

It would be great if a bunch of Treeleafers could make it to Kanshoji, priests in training or priests to be. This sangha is providing what is the closest to an actual Japanese monastic training. Very sincere and dedicated people. Great buildings, a lovely Sodo, dharma hall and great nature around. And plenty of time to practice the traditionnal forms, rituals, oryoki, chanting, kitchen work and so forth. I will send a letter of introduction for you guys.

    Let me know

It looks like I will not be able to make this, so I will be on retreat in my way at home.

    I am really interested, too.
I will stay in Europe waiting for my next MSF mission between July 20th and August 15th. The problem is that main activities (Summer retreat and preparation) start after those dates (August 17th to 21th). I wonder if a non Kanshoji sangha member could stay in the monastery in the period previous to the main activities?.
I will contact Taigu sensei anyway

Please forgive any mistake in my writing. Like in Zen, in English I am only a beginner.
