    Talking Treeleaf Shirts have shipped!

I know many of you have been anxiously awaiting your t-shirts and I'm pleased to say, they have all been shipped today! My estimation on shipping while close wasn't perfect, but we know this for the future should we do something like this again.

Please let me know when you get your order so I can check you off my list. Again, thanks for being patient with me while I work through my backlog of tasks to-do.

Yugen should be posting shortly that we have made our donation to Save The Children funded through our shirt sales.

OK folks - on all your behalf a contribution of $260.00 (USD) has been made to Save the Children. I have forwarded appropriate electronic receipts to Seimyo and cc'd Jundo.

Thank you guys. I have received a copy of the complete donation receipt.

How did the accounting come out, total amount raised, amount that went to shirts and postage, amount that went to the charity?

Here is financial data from the Paypal account - Chris and I have not yet reconciled (he also has an excel spreadsheet) - there are at least two deltas we have to narrow down: 1) the fee Paypal charges for each transaction (which we did not figure into the total price per shirt), and 2) at least one t-shirt for which payment was returned to sender by Paypal. We will have a final reconciliation within a day or two.

Total amount received in USD (minus Paypal fees): 1123.85
    T-shirts and printing: 567.78
    Shipping (domestic and international): 358.57
Contribution to Save the Children: 260.00 (52 shirts x 5.00 USD contribution per shirt)

    Total expenditures: 1186.35
Total contributions (minus Paypal fee) 1123.85

    Total Delta: -62.50

All payments have been made so the shortfall is internal. Chris and I will reconcile and make our final report shortly. The interesting part is that just over 23% of total funds (minus Paypal fees) went to charitable contribution. We did not adjust the contribution amount to keep us in the black because the commitment made was to contribute 5.00 USD per shirt to the designated charity. Chris and I will deal with the delta.

    Thank you.

I still have some serious reservations about whether this is a cost effective way to get some money to charity, but that is for any next time. We can just enjoy these shirts. T-shirt weather is right around the corner.

There were a couple of glitches, but nothing too dramatic. We had one repeat order and one that has to be repaid, but so far this is how it looks. Please note that the entire amount projected to be donated to Save The Children was donated. Any overruns or unanticipated costs were absorbed on this run.

    1156.00 in Sales

    1123.85 Collected after Paypal fees
    567.77 52 Printed Shirts
358.57 Shipping costs (for 51 shirts)
    260.00 Save The Children donation
    ----------------------------------------------------
    -62.49 Current Balance

We'll be about $40 closer once we sell our spare Medium shirt and receive payment for another.

In the future I'd add an extra $2 to cover Paypal fees, shipping materials and postage, but overall we were very close to keeping a zero balance.

    Seimyo,
So you and I are .01 off in reconciliation. I was over by .01 in the shipping category. Darn. I'm not quitting my day job.

I'm inclined to agree with you at this point Jundo. It was a great exercise, but it required a lot of time and accounting. In the future I'd be inclined to just sell a couple of different designs on RedBubble or like service where people can order shirts any time they desire. We won't make nearly as much for charity, but it would make something.

Thank you so much for your efforts in this undertaking, Seimyo, Yugen and Kyonin! While you have generously offered to absorb the overage this time, I'm with everyone else, I'd be happy to help make up the extra costs!

Yay! Really looking forward to the t-shirt showing up. Should it be decided to try this again, I for one would be more than willing to pay more in order to help offset the additional costs, and give more to charity.

My tee shirt arrived today coincidentally on the same day that I had the first Wednesday night sitting group at my home! It looks great, advertises Treeleaf and the black shirt with white lettering is remarkably slimming (I thought as I ate a homemade cinnamon roll my Zinnie friend brought to zazen).

I'd been thinking for some time to begin a sitting group where I live because there aren't any near by. A meditation group meets regularly at a chemical dependency treatment in town. Each month the group practices a different kind of meditation. This month, Jokai, a Zen priest from Yokoji Zen Center, is introducing zazen. Another friend I met last year at Yokoji was there, too. A third guy at the meeting was interested in a sitting group so there was the beginning! Tonight, one called off with the sniffles but Ken and I did two sessions of sitting with kinhin in between. It's a start!!!
