    In the stream, Dogen's poem

    Dogen writes these few verses:

    In the stream
    Rushing past
    to the dusty world
    my fleeting form
    casts no reflection

Echoing a distant poem of Tozan in the Jewel Mirror Samadhi:

it is like looking into a precious mirror
form and image behold each other
You are not it, it is you

The grin is tiger leaping into tiger's eyes, and wild it is,
the rakusu is Soto, for ceremonies and such ( I got in in 2003, my first face to face meeting with Kyoto)

    Dogen's poem is great

We are not it.... to think so is small minded, its thinking and not feeling, or just knowing.

IT is You... there is no choice on the matter. Once fully realized, its an embodiment, a full expression of all we Are.

Suzuki expresses it like this... page 109 in ZMBM of Negative and Positive... 'Big mind is something you have, not something to seek for.'

    Don't seek from others,
Or you'll be estranged from yourself.
    I now go on alone—
    Everywhere I encounter It.
It now is me, I now am not It.
One must understand in this way
To merge with being as is.

    you ride a jade elephant backwards, chasing the winged dragon-deer;
now as you hide far beyond innumerable peaks--
the white moon, a cool breeze, the dawn of a fortunate day

For those who would like to know more about Tung-shan AKA Dongshan AKA Tozan (a Soto Zen VIP in my view!), here is a long article about him and the teaching of suchness:
    http://www.ancientdragon.org/dharma/...ng_of_suchness

It also deals with the "I am not It, It is now me" statement after seeing his reflection in the river.
